OK , back at it a little bit......"going through the proper channels" Well I hope I'm doing it properly.

I feel a bit manly after cutting some pretty good sub rails , not as manly as when you chop a top but knowing there's really no going back after cutting the rails.

I had a metal fab shop make me a couple 1-3/4 x 5 inch angles out of 14 gauge
    20200914_150427.jpg
I made some pie cuts and used some 1/4 stainless carriage bolts to attach them to the cut rails. 20200914_145722.jpg
A little fiddling and there we are . Not welded in yet , that will be the next manly thing I do , as long as I keep everything lined up properly it should go back together only a little lower.

I joined the body to the channeled sub frame and started welding in patch panels. It's starting to get less wiggly and more like the coupes in my imagination

Great craftsmanship and outside-the-box thinking on this one!

Not much to see , it looks like a pie tin on an angle grinder. I got it from Wolfe Mfg. They make some pretty good instructional videos for their discs.

  12. Interesting that the high speed doesn't make it warp

Actually the disc does not run totally true. There is some slight wobble which seems to deliver small hits on the high spots as well as heat the high spots , so in effect heating and hammering at the same time. When I first started doing bodywork I tried doing the "pin shrinks" with an OA torch and a wet rag. I would spent hours it seemed chasing warps and oilcans all over a panel. Now I can almost get to no filler metal finishing , small dents that would just get a gob of filler now almost disappear. I still use some filler but mostly high build primer and 2k putty to get the job done.

I had an early commercial version of a shrink disc (Sunchaser"??) and it was "corrugated" (like 0.5" deep) in a radial pattern from the center point of the disc! Someone stole it or I'd post a picture.

I got tired of welding in patches and wanted to see what it looks like on the ground. the tires are 650 -16 and I'll be using 750's

I put the front axle in place at ride height

Did some work on the subframe crossmember to tunnel the driveshaft

Spent about an hour pulling tiny little nails from the roof wood and interior wood. I took off the visor and saw this... 20201112_142345.jpg
...bare shiny metal. It never fails to amaze me when I find shiny metal on an old car. This steel hasn't see the light of day for 90 years and it's still like the day it was assembled. The last guy who saw the visor on this car is long gone and the tin looks like new....amazing!

This channel job is next level!

I have all sorts of dents and issues on my coupe body. I should look into a shrinking disk. I wonder if a dummy like me could handle getting panels to 75% of yours! I'd save a bunch of filler... haha.

Stupid fat fingers!....mine not yours. You'll be amazed how straight you can get your panels with a disc.
Give it a try you'll do great

  20. The stainless shrinking discs are a little costly but I have to agree they are a great tool. I didn't know anything about them either but used you-tube to get a visual clue on how to start. I love mine also.

It looks like engine is pretty far forward, are you moving the Radiator forward as well. I'm in the process of figuring out where my motor mounts are going on my 30 Tudor, want it as far forward as possible but worried about fan hitting Radiator.

Yeah , I'm going to have to move the rad forward. If I can find a shorter water pump and a single groove damper I may not have to move it too far. The military block has a quite long snout on the WP , there's lots of room in a 6x6 though.I'm limited moving the motor back because of my carb setup . I don't want to cut my cowl top to fit.

...took a bit to get it dialed in.
Sorry about the Sharpie in the pic , I know some guy's are sensitive about them. 20201120_151709.jpg

Just came in for supper , got some more floor and hump done.I made the hump removable as well as the drivers side floor panel so I can access the master cylinder. I made a little plate to cover the master cylinder but don't care for how it looks. Maybe cast something? 20201123_151602.jpg 20201123_151635.jpg 20201123_151752.jpg 20201123_151955.jpg

Just a thought but that master door is not going to be fun to fill. I made mine big enough to get my fat hands in there and put more fluid in .
