Technical I'm not a Ford guy so, can someone help with an air filter number

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 1933_willys_77, Oct 15, 2020.

  1. I have an old custom dual quad finned oval air cleaner. I have a brand new filter but it's very short. I have two old well worn filters that I believe are Ford 4 x 2 or 3 x 2 that are taller. Can anyone give me part numbers for the correct replacement, even if it's old and I have to hunt for NOS. I really want the taller of the two which is approximately 2 3/8" tall. Thanks 20201015_154722.jpg 20201006_180508.jpg
    Its about 20 3/4" long by 9 1/2" wide

Napa has a resource on line to help you figure out what you have there based on measurements. Not NOS but could help point you in the right direction.

Because your not a Ford guy.;)

  6. Just an FYI, Wix and Baldwin filters have dimensions for air filters listed in their catalogs. I have copies of both, and I can only assume that this info is on their websites.

My search also found the S&B oval AF7 at 2.250 tall

  9. I would still like to find a Autolite, Motorcraft or a Fram part number. Balwin I have and it's the short one. Wix, I don't find one.

Don't remember where the photo came from but this is the type I'm looking for. I'll check into the S&B but I don't want one that is oiled cotton like a K&N

I think to get the extra height, you will have to go to S&B or K&N filter. K&N has a 3" tall filter KNN-E-1963

  17. Yup and that's the shorter of the two I have. Can't imagine what a taller NOS would cost. So I ordered the motorcraft FA48 one that's 1.8" tall for the time being

Look hard and close to the one you have, there might be some kind of identification.

  21. I'll look some more but "top" was the only print. I'll see if there is anything molded in anywhere tomorrow when I'm back in the shop.

I had a 69 Mustang that had a 427 R code engine transplant with the 2-4 barrel carburetors. I did a search and that filter has the same dimensions. I found this tall one on the Tony D. Branda site that was mentioned by Mr48chev. http://www.cobranda.com/sbovairfielt.html
