Hot Rods 28/29 or 30/31 FORD ~ WHICH BODY STYLE DOES IT FOR YOU?

I could write a lot,but really"COOL" covers it.

 

One of our clubs Charter Members, Willian Saylors was quiet a character when he was still with us, William always said, "A 1932 Ford is just a DeLuxe Model A", he was a hard core 33/34 Ford guy. HRP

 

I have always liked the 28-29 better. I like the step between the cowl and the A pillar. I think it makes the car look more like an old car than the 30-31. I am also not a fan of '32 grill shells on Model A's. However the 32 shell looks better on a 30-31 than it does on a 28-29. Its like a step in the evolution of the ford shape. From an antique looking car to a bit more streamlined look. The '32 shell evolves the 30-31 shape with things being more rounded.

 

I like a 30-31 coupe but a 28-29 roadster

 

I always like the Magoo style 28/29 on Deuce rails the old objection is the 4 bar's, if I were to build a clone I would use split bones merely for the aesthetics HRP

 

Back in the 70's I bought two Model A Victoria's in pieces and loaded them up in a dump truck and brought them home, I had the idea of using one of the bodies and replacing the windshield cowl area with a 28/29 piece, the only thing that would have needed to be done was chop the windshield to be the lower height of the Victoria.

At that time I had the vision but I probably didn't have the skills to have pulled it off, I had a old friend from Georgia call me wanting to but both cars, he ended up building to very nice Vickys but I always thought a resto rodded style phantom vicky would look cool. HRP

 

Several years ago Alan Grove (Alan Grove Components, Louisburg, KS) was playing around with the idea of producing a '28/'29 Victoria body in fiberglass. I did a couple of mockups for him, but I never heard if he actually moved on the idea.

 

28-29 for me: cabriolet, Tudor, roadster, closed cab PU, coupe

 

I learned how to drive in a '31.

I have a '29. My brother has a '29. My uncle has the aforementioned '31, and a '30.

My favorite? The one that is for sale, with a title, at a price I can afford.

 

That has to be one of my most favorite colors, on pretty much anything.

I like them all, but really like parts of them. I like Tudors, the 28/29 cowl and the flat top of the T. This was the best of both worlds for me, but I don't have anymore room . It was for sale on here, hope whoever bought it treats it right.

 

Thanks, I've had that coupe for over 35 years. The lady is Velma Wallace, her husband was president of Cessna and my wife knew her. She showed my wife a picture of herself in the 30's with her 29 Sport Coupe and wanted a ride in our Special Coupe. She was 94 at the time and was nerve wracking getting her into and out of the rumble seat but once she was in it we drove her around for quire a bit and she had a ball.

 

Wackdaddy now that’s how to build a model a,if I build a model a that’s it right down to the color and all.

 

I've found more 30-31's over the years, so I guess I like the look a bit better, but the body style is a big factor.'28 Sport Coupe, 28-29 Tudor, 30-31 Roadster, '31 Vicky, 28-29 Closed Cab Pickup, '31 Town Car Delivery, and a '31 Station Wagon all have features I find pleasing. Bob

 

I like both but prefer the early ones ,,except when they are chopped ,,the early bodies don’t chop well for looks ,,they go out of proportion,,the 30-31 far better proportions when chopped,,,Peter Carpenter photo,,

 

A 5 window Coupe so I can fit in it....opps they are all 5 window.

 

After collecting a bunch of parts to make an Av8,
A 28-29 roadster cowl became available locally. I was really wanting a 30-31 coupe but man-to-man I sure am happy with the roadster I built.
Since I finished the roadster I have been collecting pieces to put together a 30 coupe, so best of both worlds here!! I love them all

 

Depends on the build. I like things about both. You can build a great hot rod from any Model A.

 

I’ma say a ‘28-‘29, since I’m building one,?is my most favorite-ist one...

28-29 roadsters but 30-31 Coupes, as long as they wear there own grill shells.
Nothing looks finer than an original shell on 30-31 Coupe IMHO.
Consensus and peer pressure seem to land 32 grill shells on them.

 

I simply can not choose and that is the reason I have to have at least one of each.
I have a 28 roadster, a 28 pickup, a 29 pickup, a 29 sedan delivery, 2 30 Coupes, a 31 Coupe, and a 31 Panel Truck and no intent of stoping anytime soon. Garage is full, Yard is full, and Barn is full. Time to build a bigger Barn.

I’ve always preferred the’28-‘29.
To me the ‘30-‘31 looks too much like a ‘32 ........

 

I like the 30/31 better. Not a fan of the step up from the cowl to the A pillar. But, there sure are a lot of great looking 28/29's out there!

 

I like them all, but the 30/31 a little more .

 

Definitely a fan of both A styles, however I'm a bit biased as I have a 28 coupe, 28 roadster, 30 Tudor sedan and a 31 AA

I originally was partial to the 30/31s but the earlier 28/29 lines have really grown on me!
