Art & Inspiration RJ #84 ships, just my luck no '40 on the cover.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by lothiandon1940, Oct 13, 2020.

  1. Just my luck. The #84 Rodder's Journal is shipping and the Norm Grabowski Kookie Kar is front cover for subscribers with the Barry Lobeck Flamed '40 for news-stand customers. Guess I may have to buy one off the rack as well as my subscriber issue. mail.jpg

Hopefully, those folks who claim to never get emails from TRJ will pay attention to this thread. My announcement came this morning:
"We’re excited to announce Rodder’s Journal #84 is in-stock and shipping to subscribers this week. For the subscriber cover, we turn the spotlight on Norm Grabowski’s “Kookie Kar” in all its restored glory. In celebration of ’40 Ford’s 80th anniversary, we have Barry Lobeck’s flamed ’40 Ford coupe on the newsstand cover. Inside, you’ll find the Panella Trucking Willys Gasser, a high school hot rod F-100 pickup and a whole lot more.

Beyond the car features, we have our first-ever custom upholstery scrapbook that showcases perennial Texas trimmer Vernon McKean, a Missouri hot rodding retrospective with Bob Rothenberg, a tour of Mercury Charlie’s shop, and a colorful profile on surf artist Eddy Y. This issue spans the hot rod and custom car spectrum, and we’d like to think it’s a great escape from all that’s happening in the world today."

  9. .........I've certainly given it some thoughts over the years. The thing that I like the most about the Lobeck '40 flames is that when you would see the car coming at you, it would look to be a Yellow car, but then as you got the full view, it's obviously Black with classic flames.

Thanks for the heads up! I’m so used to clicking “no emails” on things that when I subscribed I hit it with out thinking.

should probably go edit that so I get them but seems the news always hits the hamb in about 30 minutes anyhow ‍♀️

When TRJ announces a new issue, I bet it takes way less than 30 minutes to hit the HAMB!

Should I start things up by saying I haven't gotten mine yet? :)

Well no message but my internet is always slow anyhow. Now I have something to watch the mailbox for. A friend of mine has his flamed 40 standard sedan for sale if someone is looking for a decent older build running a 351 and automatic. Low 20's and a true fly in and drive it home ride. My message to Don about "A Forty without flames..." referenced an engraved brass tag on the firewall of Barry's coupe.
I also think that flames have saturated the hobby again. Don's coupe is fine the way it is!

  19. ..............Thanks for the kind words.

  23. It's all good, guys. I appreciate the nice comments, but since I've had the car for almost 31 years and haven't splashed some flames on there, it's likely that it won't happen during my ownership. Maybe the next person.:) 2013-10-22 13.06.45.jpg
