I need a favor from someone that owns a 47 to 53 Chevy/GMC truck with a stock rear end. I need a measurement from the grease zert in the circle of the photo to the front of the axle. Thanks.
...I'd suggest you mock up the bed with the rear fenders and center your wheel/tire in the center of the fender opening, make sure the truck is sitting on the rear springs (not hanging down unloaded)to be accurate....that measurement you're asking for could be different from truck to truck, you need the wheel centered to look rite
Thank you Bob but 54-55 was a different length than the 53's. Rusty I made a mark before I removed the bed/fenders. The kit that I bought from POL backs it up 1.5" from the stock hole. It still doesn't line up with the mark that I have. I'd like to know if they are correct or the mark is correct. lol
It does not matter if you marked the stock C/L, mock up with the bed and fenders is the ONLY way to make sure you get it right. It is all about what LOOKS right and not any actual number. Ride height plays a huge role in this along with tire and wheel size.
26 1/4" I have a 1949 1/2 ton. I converted from closed to open drive shaft, my wheels are centered perfectly. I suggest contacting Buffalo Engineering, he's a left coast guy who sold me the axle perch/shock mount kit. It is perfection for closed to open.
I just measured a 47 that is out of a truck and it's 25 inches. I think it would be hard to get a accurate reading with the bushing mount system on these rear ends.
