Hey legends, just rebuilt my 1940 ford steering box, everything went together spot on, but in the kit is a rubber bush with what looks to be sintered bronze bush inside that, my guess is it’s to replace the locator in the top of the column? [IMG]

    Thanks!

  2. Yes, that is the top of the column support bushing. The original one is a two piece "stacked design" (at least on mine), and was a pain to get out. This design installed easily. Check the fit on the steering shaft first before installing in the tube.

  3. Didnt fit easy on mine.Mine was a bear to drive in.If I ever do another I will sand it down on the outside until it starts to drop in.Easier yet would be to use a flanged bearing from a wheel barrow wheel.

Thanks mate! I was sure that’s what it was, but just wanted to double check!

Use a ball bearing instead. It makes a big difference
