Even little old lady PT Cruisers have a slide out box under the passenger seat. It is latched, I don't remember if they lock.

A few years ago there was a drawn out legal battle in
I believe France. A person wanted to import a collector car from I believe Down under. I can't remember if it was a factory conversion from car to truck or visa versa. Any how there was an area in the build that was not easily inspected FROM THE Factory ! This was suspected as a compartment for contraband. After much legal wrangling the poor guy got his car.

My 2016 Ram has two compartments in the rear seating area hidden under he carpet, factory stock. As to weapons, Texas is very gun friendly. I regularly carry a loaded Taurus Judge, concealed which in California would be at least a double felony

On my car I really have no place to store anything. I mounted a ammunition box bolted to the frame in a inconspicuous area. I used a ammunition box because they are air and watertight. I removed the bail handle for a smoother look and painted the same color as frame. I had our local police come to the house for a courtesy safety inspection during the title process. The officer looked at it, asked what it was I told him and his reply was “cool idea”.

Concealment is an enhancement charge to the charge of engaging in illegal behavior. Most states have laws like this, if not all.

The existence of a compartment is not an illegal behavior. The existence of a compartment does not constitute probable cause to conduct a search. A locked compartment, hidden, or otherwise, requires a warrant for search. You are not required to answer the question of what is in the compartment, should you be in possession of something incriminating.

Laws center around behavior, not stuff. Item X isn't illegal, as items are not behavior. The possession, use, distribution of Item X can be illegal, as that is behavior.

I was told by a Customs Officer that your car could be seized at the border if you have modified it for the purpose of smuggling.

If you modified it not for smuggling then ok I guess.

So I add a compartment in the floor to keep tools and spare parts that’s ok.

I’m not a customs officer so I can’t verify any of this.

If you are not doing or planning something the would give the police an excuse to search your vehicle, whats the problem?

Every state has different firearm laws, be sure you know your states laws. Here in Oklahoma you can carry a gun on your hip, like Matt Dillon! Lol
Also, my OT Chrysler van has a little lock box, kinda hidden under the passenger seat. Factory!
