I see I posted my '48 Sedanet as it sat in my garage in 2014...so here it is 5 years later and it's changed a bit...this pic is kind of an "art shot" so I'll post another...

Closer still...
I'm close to having it on the streets...another month or so...

Love your Pontiac. Even though I have a '47 Buick Sedanette which is waiting its turn I'm still not 100% sure I'm going to keep it. There's just something about the more rounded rear slope as opposed to the Pontiac, which I think has more pronounced slope, that bugs me a bit. My skills aren't good enough to chop it so we'll have to see. Ironically it is the least in need of work than my other projects.

picked this one up last year, few cars ahead of it to be built but I always wanted one.

 

I have been working on this 41 Oldsmobile since 1995, finally coming along now that I have retired.

 

Not GM but I feel it’s close enough to mention: my latest addition is a Brougham ‘49 Hudson Super. Brougham is the Sedanet body style nomenclature of Hudson; a two door sedan with sloped back.

Well, here it is almost a YEAR after I posted a couple of pix of my '48 Sedanet...sorry to say it's still not on the streets...too many "have to do things twice" on it...but as of November, 2019, I did get to drive it to the alignment shop...and take it up to have exhaust put on it then back home...that was it...!!! It now sits in my garage getting more chassis work...and a bunch of minor work that didn't get done before. Since it's winter here, I'm now in no hurry to put it on the streets...I'm confident it'll be ready to drive by the time Spring gets here.

Hi Carsten. Yes I sold my Poncho to a friend in our carclub so he will take good care of the old Streamline. I had to buy another car to work on this winter and it turns out to be this 49 Olds. The only one of this model in Sweden btw.

 

More antecedents. I came across these Austro-Daimlers today. I believe the 1932 car is the earliest example of the style I've yet seen:

In 1946, my dad had saved up enough money to buy a 1941 Buick sedan. (he later told us it was a fastback) At the time, it was a long haul car for our family from the Northeastern California/Oregon border down to coastal Long Beach. For us, it was a moving playground in the back seat. We thought it was fun, with the many roadside stops along the way and something called a hamburger.

The only thing I remember is the amount of room my brother and I had in the back seat. But, then again, it was the first car I had ever been inside and it was for a long period of time. Upon arrival in Long Beach, we were renting a government owned 12 x 20 trailer with one bedroom. Luckily, a lot of our cousins/second cousins arrived in the next several weeks at the same trailer court.

It was one block from the LA River and PCH. The whole area was several blocks long and square. My dad, like all others, had to park in the lot outside of our trailer. Now, that trailer seems tiny, but in 1946, it was huge for two little boys and our parents. Our bed was the kitchen table and seats converted to a flat surface with the seats as a mattress.

(Jump up 15 years and that style of table/cushions were the kind we built into our van for our overnight surf trips all over. The sleeping area was a little longer for the tall teenagers, though)

The Buick fastback was officially our first family car. But, when our dad went to work, this was my only form of transportation.

I pedaled all over the whole trailer complex and explored everything, on my “pumpmobile.” Our dad took photos and his 41 Buick fastback was usually in the background.


Then after several years of living in the trailer court, our dad had again, saved up enough for a down payment on a “real house.” It was a two bedroom one bath Craftsman Style house with a huge fenced in yard. there was an old rickety multiple car garage at the end of our yard. attached to the garage was an odd studio apartment. That was our rainy day playground and get out of the house place for sanctuary.

Upon arriving in the new house, my dad tried to park in the small garage spaces that had individual doors. It was a nightmare, since the opening was too narrow for the Buick Fastback Sedan. Also, the two barn style doors would not close all the way. So, the place to park was out in front of our picket fence, under a couple of huge palm trees. By 1949, my dad has sold the 41 Buick and bought another huge 1949 4 door Buick Roadmaster. The poor 1941 Buick Fastback never got to stay in a garage for its whole life. Either did the 1949 black Buick Roadmaster.

Note: The whole block is now, history. The houses were all torn down and leveled for a new elementary/middle school complex. But, they kept our address as the schools listed address: 2335 Webster Ave.

 

Man that looks a lot like mine which I have in storage with the convertible. One day I'll get to them...

I have a 1946 ,oldsmobile I`m working on. my dad had one when I was young.

 

back in the early 50s my folks had a 48 Pontiac in black. I remember both parents waxing that shiny black paint 'till it reflected like a mirror. It met with a terrible end when my dad fell asleep at speed...CRASH!
I was able to make a good deal on this 48 torpedo when I found it under a tree in central Nebraska with the back window broken out....straight 8/4 speed hydro.
The purple 50 Buick was Gary Mathern's DesMoines based car......straight 8 with straight pipes. It was LOUD!
