There's a thread showing Model A coupes with different chops.

Is there a similar thread showing different chops on Model A sedans? If there is I certainly haven't found it by searching.

Would you please post straight on side shots of Model A sedans and list how much it's been chopped?

    THANX.

(if there's already such a thread please show a link and I'll delete this thread)

I know it is an unpopular position but I have to say that I think the "no chop" looks better.

  5. Angle chopped; 3.5" in front, 2.5" in back.

Surely there are more chopped sedans on here than these four.

Please post straight-on side pix and tell the amount of chop.

    THANX.

    Reath Automotive Model A Sedan

    Hello,

We have liked the Model A sedan since those early days in 1957-58. When the roar of the exhaust pipes blasted everyone that stood around in the pits, it was a great introduction to drag racing.
    upload_2021-12-14_4-14-20.png
The original Reath Automotive Model A sedan was a showstopper if there ever was one. The Model A sedan’s history reads like a who’s who of So Cal drag racing. But, the basis was solid ground in Reath Automotive in Long Beach, CA.

Before we continue, a point of fact is to be brought up. As mild and as wild as chopped coupes and sedans go, the mild ones give off the styling for aggressiveness. The radical chopped hot rods are a pain, as sight lines and the feeling of being squashed when sitting or driving around makes it unbearable. A radical chop certainly is not for daily driving.

    upload_2021-12-14_4-15-16.png
Interior shots of a 4-5 inch chop from a different sedan, but the idea of the chopped top inside, is the same. Ever feel like a sardine or anchovy in a can? Can’t see s#!& out of the back? It is not that we dislike a chopped coupe or sedan, but it just does not make a long distance driver or even a daily driver with all of the open sight lines a hot rod or normal car should have.

But, over the years, there have been other Model A sedans that we saw in our early history in drag racing and hot rods. The most popular and cleanest dual purpose sedan is the Jack Chrisman maroon sedan. Up close, it is in great condition and it was as if it just stepped out of a garage to make its debut.

Having such as taste for Model A sedans I tend to want to draw any style or type of hot rod. Each has a chopped top, but not the most radical of chops. The Model A sedan just has the look of being an aggressive hot rod anyway, but with a chopped top, it rules the day.

The most unusual Model A sedan was the twin, inline engine of Ray Callejo. It was built in the early days and was one of a kind. Fremont Drag Strip and Half Moon Bay were regular places this drag racer frequented.

We have always liked Model A coupes, sedans, sedan deliveries. So, I have gathered a lot of photos and have drawn various Model A hot rods. This one was from a Model A Sedan folder that just hit home.

But, for some reason, other models have also made an impression. Terry Frost’s radical Model A sedan, Jack Chrisman’s early Model A full fendered sedan and of course, later on in our photographic era, Lee Bright’s Model A Sedan Delivery, to mention a few.

Finally, a tribute Model A sedan with the rear side window filled in to make a custom sedan delivery for my brother. His original liking of a Model A coupe was the beginning of a long time of hot rodding ideas and culture. For our custom surfing adventures and lore. Chopped and lowered rake make the scene.

Great pix; BUT, how much was taken out of each? That was the reason for my original question.

How much you should chop your car is a question only you can answer. Whatever color your car is, pick a contrasting color of paint pen, then make a horizontal mark at every inch up and down the "B" pillar. Once you've marked the car take a few pictures, then print those pictures out on paper. Using a straight edge and a pencil, draw a line across the picture of the body at each inch mark, then get out the scissors and start cutting until you see something you like. This also works if you want to section or shorten a vehicle.

  19. Sorry didn't post. 4" chop.

  20. I think the angle chop as seen in post 6 has more effect than a more drastic chop. It must be harder to do, or we would see more of them. I realize stance, frame, picture angle have something to do with it.

Thanx for taking the time to respond, but you missed the point of the thread entirely.

I'm not trying to decide how much to chop my car. The point of this thread is to collect many pix of different chops; WITH INFORMATION ON HOW MUCH IT WAS CHOPPED; as research material for everyone on here to use/peruse.

I'm unpopular too. But if one must,, stop at 3" on a coupe. A sedan can handle up to 4". After that I won't even slow down.

Hard to find an 'A' thread, If you find what you need, copy and paste.
That way you'll eliminate the side comments. Like the specs I have posted. Mine happens to not be photogenic at this time. I plan to hold on to my 13" of glass.

Sounds like a good idea though now that its been spelled out.
