Projects Seagrave 531 V12 Special BuiLd Up in Brazil

I have rebuilt a couple of the 400 series Seagrave engines, but not the 500 series, which date to the mid 50s. If memory serves, Volvo bearings fit the crank, and Ford points for a dual point distributor work. The distributor set-up on these engines were designed for redundancy, using one at a time. Powering both at the same time results in a rough running engine, so use an A-B type switch. The Seagrave owners club can help with a lot of information. Pay special attention to the generator, as shaft out of the back of it drives the water pump. Those generators are hard to find. Lastly- that engine design suffered from poor lubrication on the timing chain. Seagrave's fix was to drill and tap the top of the timing chain cover, and route a 1/8" copper line from the oil pump discharge manifold to it.

Holy freight Gui, was the frame that smooth when you got it? I may have to go back to see if you posted it when you started.

 

We made some smoothing in the chassis. After almost 90 years it has some roughness.

Glad I did.

Some finishing touches, headlights... starting to get a personality.

And now... paint.
Red and black.
Boy oh boy...

 

When the car is finished and people are admiring it, and you tell them that the engine came from a fire truck, the red paint will offer dramatic and fitting visual confirmation of that.
