Hello all, Getting read to install the one piece crank seal on my flathead. I noticed that there is a difference in the profile on each side so I am assuming there is a preferred orientation. The "peak" on the seal has a flat ridge on one side and does not have it on the other side. I am assuming the ridge side faces the block but wanted to be sure... really don't want to have to take it apart again later to fix a leak. Thanks for the help. Chappy
The inside lip of an oil seal always faces in So by looking at your pics the bottom picture should be facing in to the block. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
What triumph said, but pull the rubber jacket off the seal and silicone a small bead inside of sleeve and stretch it back over seal, also silicone both grooves that seal sits in, recently installed same seal and didn’t silicone and it leaked.
Chappy, Pic 2 looks to be the correct inside of the seal. I installed the same one and had no issues with leaks. Cliff Ramsdell
