History Images of vintage gas stations ~ pre 65

How about a little art work of what might have been ????

 

I'd think water...i remember being with dad when they added water while the engine was running

 

Water bucket so I would expect water.
Washer fluid was a concentrate back then, in the non-winter months most folks used water.

 

Well here is my neighbors place

 

"Check your radiator, sir?"

 

So two pumps equal two water jugs

Don't know where all the water disappeared to back then but I remember in the 50's adding water or at least checking it was a requirement every time you filled up with fuel. In the 60's it seemed like the problem disappeared.

 

I live in NW Ohio.Theres one of these on the old Lincoln Hwy about 10 miles from me.

 

Check that front bumper....

 

Seems like it was the 60's when nearly all new cars had radiator shrouds.

 

Coolant overfull/recovery tanks pretty much eliminated the earlier common water loss problem.

 

Push bumper I’m sure!

This was my grand dads place he ran it with his brother it was on rt 10 in Mt Carmel Conn not sure the years they had it. Thats my grand dad ,Dan out there at the pumps the tracks in the fore ground are the old Conn co. trolley line and the y look pretty un-used so i am thinking the picture was around late 30s.

 

it's amazing how many old photos of these stations there are isn't?

 

Hey, they have a tire sale going on! Think I’ll stop in for a new set of redlines for my ‘64!

Located in Forks, WA. I will look to see if I have any more photos. There were two regular pumps, two supreme, one custom supreme, and one diesel. The door on the far end was high enough for log trucks to enter over a grease pit in the floor. The middle shop had a hoist, the other was used for tire service and wheel alignment.

 

This was to same location in earlier years.
