Technical 283 SBC to 39 trans

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bali-rod, Oct 5, 2020.

  1. Hey HAMB folks.
Anybody out there have the right part numbers to set up a 283 SBC to FORD 39 trans.? I already have the adapter.

Flywheel , Clutch and pressure plate.

I know this is all pretty standard hot rod info so I appreciate your help identifying. Thank s in advance Andy

Use the Chevy flywheel, get a pressure plate for a 49 to early 51 Merc, and use a clutch disc for a 10" 1 3/8th 10 spline Ford. A 59A replacement will work. With this set up, you can use the stock 39 trans throw out bearing. I don't have the part numbers but a GOOD local parts guy can do it for you. If that isn't possible, go to Van Pelt sales. They should know.

Don't forget to get the long spigot bush it has to sit proud of the crank about 3/4 of a inch or so
