It may not qualify as a slow project yet but where I am starting from with just a frame and nothing else I can read the writing on the wall. 31 roadster.
1932 3W original chassis, French flathead,39 box, Rodline fibreglass body 1939 Mercury coupe with a 1954 331 Chrysler Hemi 1954 Willys Jeep with a 1969 Cadillac 472-TH400 So enough to do next to some motobike and moped projects.
I have this....So far, new wire harness, upholstered seat, interior panels....needs——-window and door regulator shafts stripped, 65 mustang lights removed from rear fenders need patching, dash had 3 gauges, radio, CB and a speaker (all removed) that needs patching, a general going over and de-grease/cake on dirt, hubcaps and bed wood repaired......this is the 3rd one I’ve owned and by far the cleanest body from being parked indoors for over 30 years...
Im working on a 29 Tudor currently. It'll have a rusty old 59A motor, '39 trans, '46 banjo rear, '46 juice brakes, and '35 wheels. I just recently set the body on the chassis. Video here....
I've owned the 62 Biscayne for twelve years and the T Coupe for nine. O.T. Race Car takes up most of my time and all of my money. I recently retired and figured things would change but now I'm remodeling my house to sell it and move. When I move, I want to build the garage of my dreams and who knows how long that will take. So... who knows when they'll get done. I've decided to just throw an engine and a front end on the 62 this winter and get it running. I plan to have a lift at my new place so I can do a body off on it at that time. I do enjoy just owning them but running cars would be more fun.
3 and 1/2 years. Just dropped if off to have the interior completed and still need to wet sand and buff the hood. Nice to see the end in site.
I clearly remember starting to build my frame at my friend's garage because he had a metal cutting band saw that I needed to use. That same weekend, his daughter was getting married and everybody in the house was busy with the reception. My thought was that true friends don't invite you to their kid's wedding. Now I hope to finish this thing before her kids graduate university!
Noticed that it’s been awhile. Car is up and running. Enjoying it with the family. Cliff Ramsdell Wife and grandson. Me, my wife and mother-in-law The dogs, one looking very guilty.
I have various projects but currently building a house( and fed up of people that have never even changed a tap washer telling me its been a while!) BUT in order of getting done I have my International to get a diesel (to run on Veg oil).My 30 A Coupe-full build ,and on the sidelines a 48 Chief , and 2 shovelhead builds -not to mention my 1340 evo, my race bike and another Basty frame to build a Chout ....................i will probably die before they are done ,but its better than watching TV
In the year since I posted, my coupe is now a roller and has most of the major fabrication complete. Feels good.
Go on then, i'll play. I bought my first 40 for my 40th Birthday. Always wanted one, so sold a relly nice OT car and bought a 40 sedan of ebay....big mistake, kept it about a year, then sold it and bought another one that was already in the UK, so I could have a look at it before I spent my cash. So, its 15 years later, still building it. It kind of changed direction, I always wanted to hot rod it, but thought it would be 'quicker' to semi custom it, basically a stock car lowered alot with skirts and whitewalls. It was taking a lot longer than i wanted, so decided to send it out to a place to get it just about driving. But then i thought about it, and decided that if im giving someone that much money, I may as well get the car I want, so all the drive train got taken out, new engine, trans and rear suspension, a great leap forwards, but I basically got a non driver back for the money I had, so its back to an hour here and there. I've just changed my working days (self employed) to be Tuesday to Saturday, giving me a firm one day a week (Monday) of car time. The build is in my 'signature' at the bottom, if you have the time in between your busy car building schedule,,,,
Just give Bob the doors, he will fit them to his project and give you back the ones with no tops when you get around to needing them!
I have had a 1953 Ford Customline 2dr for four years. Work on it as my health allows. I got a 1950 Lincoln last fall. It needs the gas tank put back in to be a driver. I have ordered the clean out kit. I will start the Ford and look at the Lincoln today.
Ha! I forgot about this thread, & that I posted on it. update: '63 Wagon was completed & sold last year. Kinda miss that boat. '39 Standard is mechanically back together. Rebuilt the trans / rear suspension / rear shock upgrade. Drove it around the shop. Then, cut part of the floor out for rust repair. It's almost back on the road. Some progress on the chopped truck (new front suspension, some metal work) & ain't even touched the Buick. So, now 1(maybe 2) project(s) qualifies? I need to get busy.
See post 24. Finished the garage, brought the truck over. Welded in new floor, replaced both cowls, cab corners, fixed front fenders dents and rust. Swapped in a 350, Muncie m20, wired most of truck other than lights and horn. Was in process of installing heat and air conditioning when I got covid, then back went out. 7 months later, surgury on back to replace disc and scrape 3 discs for spinal stenosis, still have to do PT and have a bladder tumor removed. I expect to get back at it, it will hit the road next year unless I am 6 feet under.
Someone fired up the "Way Back" machine and this thread came up in my notifications. So, here's an update: I could have saved the effort on the Pontiac wagon, because shortly after I finished and repainted it, some brain dead hillbilly rear ended us and totaled the car. The Riviera got sold when I bought the '52 DeSoto wagon to replace the Pontiac. The '34 roadster left the building and was replaced by the '29 with the Hemi that the wagon coughed up, and the T'bird still isn't finished...
2 actual "Hamb" friendly projects = the 48 pickup and the Boattail on a 30 +/- Chevy frame. I've also got the front half of a 27 T touring that we have had for 30 years or so that may become a T modified using a batch of parts I already have laying around. No shop to work in has been the big slowdown on the truck as I have 75% of the stuff to put it together as a driver. Then there are two OT projects one intended to be the tow rig, parts chaser for the rest and the other just the fun and comfortable road burner that will run the big dogs into the ground .
Yeah, it's an older thread. My '39 has been roadworthy for some time, although it's running rich - need to look at that. Posted some progress on my truck. Dash is finished, engine/transmission mounted. Been back on the '47 Buick & should be driving that in the spring. Maybe a thread about that one?
