In 1965 a 54 Buick when I was 14, 55 Buick two years later. In 1969 I bought a 40 Ford DeLuxe sedan for $100 that I sold to buy my first 55 Chevy. Another 55 Chevy in 1970. In 1973 I bought a 55 F-100 that was powered by a 350/350 Chevy that I still have that is on my to do over list. I also have a 54 Olds with a 58 Pontiac Tri-Power 370 and Hydromatic in it that has been on the back burner way too long as my 65 Buick Skylark Gran Sport is getting all the love and money right now.

Another "OLD Timer" Started driving at 15, 1963, first car,1957 Chevy and many kool cars till 1975, all HAMB friendly, first new vehicle, 1975 Chevy PU, towed my Midget race car, raced 1970 through 1991. I came back to car hobby in 90's with a Model A Highboy roadster, 32 3 window coupe, now have a 51 Merc. My entire life has been involved around the car/race/hobby, I had the good fortune to be born into it and will be till my expiration date. I have stated many times, "I'm a very Lucky man" Check out my albums. The Moose photoshop of my Roadster, my paint/wheels were out of HAMB guidelines.[IMG] [IMG][IMG]

  6. I bought my 38 Chevy while I was in high school for $600. I drove it in all original form for two years before putting in a SBC with a 350 and Chevy rear.:) 138.jpg 150.jpg 402.jpg 465.jpg But I had to sell it after I got our 34 Dodge delivery on the road.:( At the time I also had a 29 A coupe and 68 Vette too. So just too many Hot Rods at one time, for our budget. I still have the 34 delivery, 29 coupe, and Vette. But I miss the Chevy..:) Ron...,.

I guess it would be either a 63 Chevy II 4 door with a 194 and 3 speed. But I had a 64 Chevelle before that, one year over the line.

I guess my first car was HAMB friendly. It was a black '57 Chevy Belair V8 2 door hardtop that I bought in 1963. I paid $800 for it...........it was just an old car then but it was a really nice car.

In 1966 when I got drafted I sold it for $800. That was the last time I ever broke even on an old car. It is on the top of the "I wish I had never sold that car" list however.

My 19 54 Chevy was my first had a couple of 65 Impalas before that some parts from the 2nd impala went into the 54 but its my 1st and only ,unless i win lotto or something, got the car in March of 1988 ,learned to drive stander in it ,3 on the tree"worked on it drove it and screwed with it ever since ,Some asked me what the car was worth i told them , it has to many memory's you cant put a price on sentimentality ."Strictly unfinished business" as been on the trunk since back in the early 90s and after the car came out of storage 6yrs ago I re-shot the black on the trunk and that saying went right back on. 32 years with the same mistress :)

'47 Crosley wgn(titled as a '48 due to being 1st sold in '48) in 1963 for $35 & drove it home. First "hot-rod" engine swap was "Y-Block" Ford into '46 Studebaker PU in '71(wish I'd saved it : it had a very straight body!) Lots of other mostly HAMB friendly since then, although a fair number of OT vehicles for either reliable work transport or keeping a spouse happy. (I'm retired & single now, so I do not need to worry about work transport or what the wife wants to drive!!!)

  16. This was the day I claimed my grandpa's 33 Ford pickup as "mine" lol.

  17. First one I can remember would have been my 55 F100 that I had in about 92. I traded a 62 bug for it and then put the truck in black primer and flames. I put some 5-spoke mags on it and thought I was cool. I actually think I may know where that old pickup is and thought of knocking on the door to see if they wanted to sell it.

    It's complicated; really>
When hunting my first complete car in 1955 an just starting to pile up parts to build a dream hot rod?
OK Plan in my head was to build a hot rod roadster, but also get a old car that I could drive on rainy days and for dates, if hot rod was not working or girl don't like her hair blowen..
The hot rod build moved along slow,as every thing for it was hunted up in a dump or traded for=no $,as $ was for every day type car.
I looked at a number of used cars with in my piggy bank saving funds $110. The one I fell in love with was for $250 ,with it being repaired for a bad rod,1953 low hardtop V8,spotless but bad rod. Dad would not let me buy it{most likely do too rod, more then that he would of had to add $140,to get back later.
After a number of old cars I liked, Dad would not sign for,I did buy a badly running Crosley Hot Shot=a small sports car. I got it running well in about a week< I'm now sure Dad thought there was no way I'd get that running well for months. He drove it around the house in the grass,at higher an higher speed, tell he made the yard in to a dirt track, ripping up the grass.
Dad tells me after a few days,"We're going to build a SCCA H-Mod race car with Hot Shot !=I no longer had a car!
Just my pile hot rod 1928A parts in the weeds out back. Did get rod running, but not any were near done really.
So Dad takes me out looking for a used car better to drive to school with, the way he sees it!
End up getting a Henry J,with a broken tranny for $75,cost me $20 for a working tranny from junk yard.
Not sure how to point to what was my first car,LOL But things work out,an I had two cars for high school/one hot rod/one full custom<had to custom that thing!!! Hard work, very little $.

1964 Falcon Futura two door hardtop. I fell in love with it at 8 years old, bought when I was 16. Still have it in the corner, 32 years later. I will die with it in my world.

My 51 Merc that I bought from Chuck Darlington the Crafts Shop Teacher at Toppenish HS when I was a 16 year old sophomore in 1962 and was in my name for 32 years. Top photo was hanging with a 51 at Bonneville in 1988 second was a few days earlier at Puyallup in 1988 bottom photo in front of Paul Harper's old house in Roslyn Wa when it had the cut down 65 Caddy grill in it. With 3 other Mercs in the photo.
Odd thing is that I never had a photo of the car from when I had it in High school. The oldest photo I have of it was taken here in front of the house I live in now before I stashed it out back of my grandfather's barn before I left for the Army,

  25. My first car was a red 53 chevy 210 convertible straight 6 with 3 speed trans. My first Hot Rod
was a channeled 33 Ford 5 window coupe project that my dad flat towed 3 hours to get it
home. Plans were to use the motor & 3sp trans from a 53 Cadillac hurst with motor mounts
ordered from J. C. Whitney . Bought some parts (hood , Grille from junk yard and started
work on the body . But as plans go Uncle Sam needed another warm body in1966 so I was
drafted in to the U S Army. After 2yrs as company clerk at Fort Knox Ky. & a child on the Way,
the 33 Ford was sold unfinished. I saw the car one time as someone else's project & never as
a finished car. I often wonder how it look finished but I guess I will never know. I have had
many Hot Rods since But I often WONDER about the 33 Ford.

My first car was a '33 Plymouth roadster body on a Model A frame...it was 1955, I was 13. Cleaned it up some, sold it for some $$: bought my pal Billy's '36 three window. Chopped the top 5-1/2", but pal Jim Rose found me a '30 Model A Cabriolet in a field, owner sold it to me for three (3) dollars.
I channeled it over a NICE gennie '32 frame, '32 rear and '38 Ford tube axle. 21 stud flattie and '41 pickup box. Got it running in '56...ticketed a few times for no drivers license...
