I have a SBC that was in my street rod I want to sell but not sure what it is.Casting number 3849852 which makes it a 283 but the letters after the ID look like FOLLOW 13621,it has Camel Hump heads and aftermarket aluminum intake. It ran great but I put in a aluminum 427 SBC. Any Ideas Squirrel

I am not sure Chevy ever put Camel humps on 283's. Google is your friend.

Pretty sure Chevy never did, but a lot of other people have.

I know I did...and I hate Chevys. (seriously, I've never seen a factory engine with them...)

Do you know the size of the overbore, because some 283's can be bored .125. Sorry, no idea on the I.D number. Paging @squirrel

Casting number indicates it is a 2 bolt main, 283" motor, used from 1957 to 1966. Used in
both cars and truck. Casting markings on the passenger side, back of the block will tell you
what yr., mo. and day it was cast. Double hump heads were only installed on 327" from the
factory, but used on many other motors.

@squirrel must be gathering nuts for the winter, he is usually on top of these things. He does do things besides the HAMB.

Post a clear photo of the stamped characters and it will help us ID what you have.
“FOLLOW 13621” does not sound as though it came from the factory

the hamb has been down, it came back to life for me today...but I just got back from visiting my mom in Tucson.

Pictures would be a big help, but it sounds like the block was decked and the shop or owner stamped their own name/number on it.
