Sometime after Labor Day 1960, Tri State Dragway opened their gates at Kahoka, Mo. Jim Baker and his group had the vision and with the help of many volunteers the track was successful until a new highway was built through their shutdown area. This is my tribute to TSD. Coupe was Bakers and a strong performer. Thanks for all the times.

 

Good morning. Last week Bjorn Wilsson did a sketch of a Mustang in the ocean. It reminded me of the time my wife and I went to the Turkey run at Daytona beach. I ask her to drive our 38 Chevy coupe along the waves. And then I would film her. As the waves resided out she chased them. I dropped our 8 mm movie camera around my neck, and motioned for her to head back to higher ground. Luckily back then the coupe didn't sit all that low so she made it back with out sinking it. LOL. Ron I added a flash light for a sunrise effect. Ron.......

This is tribute picture to my best friend who tragically passed away Saturday in a house fire. He was known on here as @ramrod36 Believe me the HotRod world has lost an amazing representative. Until we can cruise again.

This is a great photo taken by @deanlowe with his Brownie Camera in 1959. Since that Olds powered Potvin front mount supercharged FED was one of the fastest in the So Cal area at the time. THE 450 HP Oldsmobile’s major sponsor was Isky Cams.

It was featured in Hot Rod Magazine in August 1960.

Dick Guyette was a member of the Throttle Merchant’s Car Club.

Despite the article in the August 1960 magazine, there was an advertisement in the local Drag News paper dated January 2, 1960. Sometimes magazines have a 3-4 month prep period for the next issue made from scratch. It did back in the old days of pre computer layouts.

It surprised everyone reading the weekly Drag News as to the For Sale Advertisement of the “Isky Clown.” But, 7 months later, the August issue of Hot Rod Magazine published the nice photo spread on the FED by Dick Guyette.

“Dick Guyette's "Isky Clown," from North Hollywood, blown Potvin Olds on gas, bright orange/red. Isky took advantage of Howard Cam's ad attacking the "5-Cycle" cam Isky claimed to have. The Howard ad showed four bicyclists demonstrating the 4 cycles, with a clown on a bicycle labeled "fifth cycle." Isky, touting Cyr & Hopper's Isky-cammed car winning the '58 NHRA Nationals, took out his own ad claiming that Cyr & Hopper "were happy as clowns" to win. The slogan stuck, and Guyette named his car after it.”
