These are wonderful cars. You are going to have a blast with yours. I know I do with mine

Grounding to the frame is not good. Steel is a very poor conductor of electricity. A better way is to run both positive and negative cables from the trunk. In my red car, I used welder cables, super good, but expensive. In the black car, I went to a local NAPA store and had new battery cables made to my specifications. Double OO, If I remember correctly. Just an other way to avoid future problems, especially a the track.

I use OO as well. You run the ground from the trunk to the engine?

I’ve actually heard of that before from corvette friends.

  5. Wow...blown away up in here. That is so cool for you. I've had a couple corvette coupes, a 64 and a 74. Both were hotrods. Love those cars! 64vette1972.jpg

Rocky! How’s it going! Yes, once again I’ve gotten distracted from my Pontiac project! Lol but I consider this a worthy distraction. Lol

I thought the cut off switch had to be mounted outside the body for NHRA? Obviously yours is not which would solve a problem for me!

You are correct for the cut off switch. I installed that one to protect the battery ( It is 16 years old ) from drains in these old cars. There are original factory un-fused circuits that can burn the car down.

I have raced at many NHRA drag strips and never been busted for that. Someday I will add the "T" handle and rod.

Buddy Tom dropped off my Hays flywheel today. He runs a similar one in his 57 “stocker” with little slicks. Adjustments.JPG

Probably one of my biggest reasons for wanting a 61/62 was for the 6 tail lights!

I’m definitely a 6 tail light guy but the Rivera and I think Plymouth rectangular lights look pretty sinister!!

Because I’m a nice guy and just a few hours away, I’ll load it up and get it out of your shop so you can sleep easier at nights. Hate to see a grown man scared;)

At some point that changed from welded to bolted stick (handle).

Another great thread to follow. Saying you did good is an understatement. Getting all of the spare NOS is real bonus. The value adds up quick. Like Moriarty says you will have fun with the car. Once you start driving the car you will find how cool the car is in terms of your office space. At your height, you have to kind of angle your way in to a somewhat small space with a cool dash and shifter right there with limited space to kick the clutch-does not get any better.

In regards to what Vetrod brought up with the battery in the trunk and the cutoff, you have a couple of options. Since I have fenderwell style headers on my avatar car, I mounted the battery in the trunk. I have a T-Handle next to the inner right tail light. After awhile I removed it and only reinstall it if I go to the track. For some reason, kids and people that act likes kids, like to operate the T-handle at cars shows so when I go to leave the car will not start. Happened a number of times. Easy to reinstall.

Looking forward to what you do with the car.

It must be like a fire alarm or the “don’t push the red button” syndrome. Lol. People are goofy. Lol

I appreciate all the encouragement and I will definitely have questions. I bought the “corvette assembly manual” online. They appear to be simple cars but I’m just not familiar with them like I am with my 57 passenger car.
