I have a leaky radiator hose on my Flathead. I have tried many methods to stop it. My thought was to put a smooth coating of Permatex #1 and let it harden to smooth the rough casting. Then sand it smooth to creat a better surface to seal. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Might be a better product to use like Devcon or JB Weld. Both are 2 part epoxy that are sandal. As long as the casting is clean, shouldn't be a problem.

I'd use JB weld. The gasket sealer probably won't do what you want, but will make the hose stick, and cause problems in the future.

What's rough? The head or the water pump? I'd actually like them rough a bit so the hose will get some bite and not slip off. The rubber in the hose will conform to the sandcast surface and give a nice grip.

If you have a deep scratch maybe just fill the groove, but not cover the rest of the surface.
