A friend of mine had this car in his basement for a number of years. He doesn't normally sell any cars but he has recently. He contacted me to see if I'd be interested in the Phaeton. Long story short, I went and got it Saturday. It was an export to South Africa but quite a few years ago made it's way back to the US. It is a right hand drive car. Needs lots of love and some new wood. There's a lot to like about the car but will take a long time to bbuild. My sedan is for sale and is in the classifieds.
Nice score although can’t believe you’re parting with the sedan after wanting one again for so long. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
BTW: I'm selling the wheels and tires that are on the car now if anyone is interested. Four each 17" ?? $200
I have actually made some progress. I had to unpack the car, it had lots of parts laying inside it. One thing that came with it was a new wood kit for the right front door. I got it installed and the door fits and works real well. I have sorted out all the other wood items and have enough to start on the rear doors. Off to a good start.
Well, now I have all four doors swingin' and shuttin'!! So, I have headed up front. Got the sheet metal out of the way and started messing with the flatty. First, the fenders have had round rod welded all the way around the lip!! Lots of work but they are sturdy! The flatty is, as best I can tell, is a Merc or Candian. It is 3 3/16's bore (can't tell about the stroke untill I get some more cleanin done), factory relieved and has the round center water jacket. It has a 99 cast in the front of block juset above the water pump. Doesn't matter, I'll likely not use it. Here's some pics.
