....I forgot to mention, as it kind of goes without saying, you'll also need the pick up tube and screen that matches the oil pan.

Richard Holdener has a series of videos posted recently testing different setups for these motors including hooking up with the Cad Company guys. Here's the 1st of those.

I have watching the Richard Holdener videos about the Caddy stuff. He really went all out to test the available combos. The Pro Charged 500 would be wicked in a 49 Chevy fastback.
Makes me think about my next build.

Do yourself a favor and buy an Edelbrock intake for your Caddy. I tried all of the factory ones. I ported them . I acid ported the aluminum one .
My driver for my stock car owned a junk yard and so I had free reign to help myself to all of the Caddy parts I needed.
I even built a sheetmetal intake to get the mixture to stop running up hill. The factory intakes are low to clear the hood and to mount the a/c compressor on top.
The intake I built was a short tunnel ram that ran 2 qjets. It took a while to get them to work, but after that it was a 13 second street car with a 2.41 gear and an honest 160 mph Gbody Malibu. They called me Caddabu for years around south Ga. because of my Caddy powered Malibu's.
I put one in a LUV truck that was a real farm truck before farm truck got famous.

  8. I would if I wanted to go fast.
    The 500 is going in a 63 b600.

  9. Thanks for the info.
Have valve springs from those guys on the way.
I noticed in the video they killed 2 lifters. The roadkill guys did the same. They had to shim the rocker shafts up.
    looking into this.
We are almost at that step.

I never lost a lifter . When I built my Caddy stuff Maximum Torque Specialties was about it for Caddy parts . I modified big block Mopar rockers and had pushrod's made for my application to get the right length.
I always used Rotella for the older diesels in my flat tappet motors. No additives ,no Special break in oil.
I used a 500 Caddy in my 70 Chevy 3/4 ton tow rig that towed my dirt track hobby stock car on a heavy trailer that combined weight with tools and generator and spare parts and extra tires was probably a lot heavier than your bus. the Edelbrock had just came out and I used it on that application . It made even more torque than the stock cast iron one.
That engine was completely stock except for the intake including cast iron exhaust manifolds. It never got over 4500 rpm's even towing. My truck had 3.73 gear and 31x 10 tires. I installed a vacuum gauge in that truck and it helped keep me in the highest torque range. Stock Caddy turbo 400 long shaft transmission.

  11. The lifter failure was due to bottoming out
The rocker arm shafts were shimed up to cure this in the roadkill build.
    Going to rewatch that one.

  15. Another question. I just picked up the pulleys and brackets from a 425 caddy.
Those are a ton lighter than the 500 cast iron ones. Can I use these on the 500? Is there a balance issue?

I think the offset is different but if you have all the parts they may work.

  17. The stuff I read on the ole internets claim these engines don’t need a harmonic balance unless it a HP high RPM application.
Looks like the 73ish down has a heavy cast crank pulley with a separate small dampner
The 74ish 75 has a heavy cast crank pulley with no dampner.
The later versions have a stamped steel pulley.

Are you asking for "honest" opinions ?

  21. Nope.
Just playing around. If the students like it we will go with it.
It’s more of a teaching than an aesthetic issue
It’s goofy and gaudy. Just like what the engine is going in.

I’ve been interested in these engines for several years. I have noticed that these and other engines 40 to 50 years old are getting pretty hard to find, and I guess this isn’t even considered a “traditional” engine.

  26. I guess this engine falls into the grey area here.
The 472 came out in 68. A year before the th350 trans.

Pistons aren’t on the cheap side but I bet some of the guys building Hemis here would disagree.
    What year?

To heck with the kitchen sink, the dishwasher does and amazing job on tin work.

When I was about 16 I forgot to unload the dishwasher before mom got home. She found all the tinwork from a 318 Mopar in her dishwasher....WOW! she was mad!!!!
