In the back of the engine it does say 5.7 but when I look up the number that's on the head it says the heads are from a 305 and here is a photo of the pad on the passenger side if you can help me decode this it would be great want to see if it's worth building this engine
Look at the driver's side, behind the head, on the bellhousing flange. If you want to know the year and month of production, look at the same place on the passenger's side.
I'm not finding FPR in the regular go to sources for suffix codes. I have to go with S10-37 in that you need to start with the casting number of the block from the back left corner.
I did find this and it doesn't make me to Happy http://casting.brianesser.com/engine-codes-2/small-block-chevrolet-engine-suffix-codes/
I'm really don't understand it this engine have a throttle body injection on it and it says the suffix code is a 1978 no TBI in 78
Where are you finding any FPR suffix code? unless my eyes are seeing it wrong. I even found one source I have never seen before http://mkmann.com/pdf/SBBlockID.pdf That shows the codes by year and it isn't there. Now what is the casting number off the back of the block?
I have that page open and it flat ass is not there. http://casting.brianesser.com/engine-codes-2/small-block-chevrolet-engine-suffix-codes/ The only thing I have found starting with FP is a 230 six cylinder in a Taxi cab.
What I can find is that the engine was assembled in flint Michigan on July 2. What year I don't know but that would come with the date code on the block plus the casting number will give the bore size and an approximate year. I've pretty well blown the last hour on this, have been on more sites that have suffix codes than you can count and none as I said before show an FPR code at all for any engine. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/the-toolbox/small-block-chevy-engine-codes/28660 http://mkmann.com/pdf/SBBlockID.pdf http://casting.brianesser.com/engine-codes-2/small-block-chevrolet-engine-suffix-codes/ This is the normal small block Chevy go to suffix code source https://nastyz28.com/decode.php
The assembly code is FPR...I couldn't find it anywhere either. The stuff stamped underneath might be a partial vin. Can't tell. Its a later 70s engine at the earliest because of the short pad for the assembly info. I think they switched to the short pad about 1977 give or take a year or two..
Thank you so much for your hard work trying to find this I have a feeling that somebody put a lot of stuff from different engines on this block I also think it's a waste of money for me to build this I understand the 305 heads from small combustion chamber but they do not flow worth a shit
partial VIN says CH...... which means Chevy truck from 1987, so yeah, it looks like the post above this is the answer you're looking for
