A great photo with a great background. Just like to focus on the star of the show.

No matter how many times I see this photo I still love it. For me it's the wheels and the car. Either look great without the other. Better yet together.

I find 15x8.5's and 15X7's the most common sizes to find. 15x6 are sort of challenging. I can't recall the last time I found any 15x5. I wish you well with your search. Your car and the wheels are lookin' good as is.

Back in the late '90's they used this roadster that I'd built for one of their ads and was given this set of wheels . Nice people . hpsc9-rev2[1].jpg IMG_2068.JPG

Cragar S/X 15 x 6 one piece aluminum. They made about a BILLION Cragar SS but only made the S/X for a couple of years. I've got 6 or 7 of these. 000_0631.JPG

American Racing 15 x 9 vintage original 1960s "D" spokes. > these were 7 inch wide I had widened to 9 inch, widened on back side back in 1988. YEP, I still have them. Also had 15 x 6 narrowed to 4 1/2 wide at same time. YEP, I still have them also. > I know, NOT torque thrust in the true sense but still vintagge American Racing 5 spokes 100_1879.JPG

    Works for me!
By the way, have you ever had any International Dragmaster five spoke wheels?

I have a pair of those Crestline Mark IIs, but the later ones from Walnut Creek, and say so on the front

All I can say is WOW. Kudos to wheelguy. Very impressive collection. I'm suffering envy. Like the cars too.

Did you do any of the polishing/restoration?

  22. I believe you have that backwards. They started out in Walnut Creek then moved to Port Chicago before Port Chicago ceased to exist in about 1967 and Crestline was no more. The first series had each word in the lug nut space. The last ones only had MARK II by the lug holes adjacent to the valve hole. Over the years I've had all the variations. Now I only have the later MARK II in 15 x 4, 15 x 7, and 15 x 8 1/2".

  23. Also the earliest ones are smooth out to the edge as in the first picture. The later have a raised edge like the second picture

    Hello,

We were wondering when and where those wide American Racing Equipment, 5 spoke Torq-Thrust Wheels came on the scene in California. This advertisement came from the September issue of the weekly Drag News paper during 1964.
    upload_2021-2-11_3-53-28.png Sept 1964
So, those original wheels are as old or older than most here on the HAMB ! The American Racing Equipment originals were one of a kind and despite the looks of other brands, there is the first and only, 5 spoke magnesium wheel for us early hot rod guys/girls. Made for the drags or for the exceptional street hot rods.

    THANKS, SONDRE…KUSTOMRAMA

Magnesium drag racing wheels. An early editorial ad from Hot Rod December 1959 that introduced the American Racing mag wheels.
    upload_2021-2-11_3-54-53.png
An early ad for "Mag Wheels by American Racing Equipment" from Hot Rod Magazine August 1960. The first wheels were only available as 14" magnesium wheels.

A couple of street racers were used to promote the 7" x 15" Torq-Thrust wheel for competition and street use in 1962. Designed for 7.10/15 slicks or 7.60 to 8.20 street rubber, the wheels were priced at $65.00 each.

In 1963, with our Precision Racing Engine Co. discount, we purchased a set of 4 American Racing 5 spoke mags for a friend’s new, 1963 Buick Riviera. It was one of the first sets of 5 spokes on a pure street driven car. It made the nice looking 1st gen Buick Riviera pretty cool looking and it looked like a streamlined race car for the drags or Bonneville. He owned a construction company and had the available cash for the complete purchase/mounting/balance and alignment for his 63 Riviera.

The teenagers in this time period had little to no money for such a purchase, so out came the copy cats to offer a lesser model with a lower cost. (and slight differences in the molds for no copyright infringement)

Mine are new Torq Thrust TTO's. As cast center raw, in the old style shape.

8.5"x15" rears with Towel City pie crusts, and 5"x15" front with 195-75-15 radials
