That company was screwed by the government and big business in the same way that Tucker was. They came up with the concept and did the engineering and then Willys and Ford were awarded the production contracts. Eventually building only the utility trailers put them out of business.
They did the design under Govt. contract so they didn't own it. They were evaluated as have too little production capacity to be awarded a contract.
There's no way they could have met the demand- even Willys (the MB) couldn't, so Ford wound up making Jeeps as well (the GPW)
Yeah, Bantam was the original designer but Willys and Ford were awarded the contract. Bantam got the honor of manufacturing the quarter ton trailers for the war effort.
Which was the case, they couldn't even come close to meeting the production quota. Still it's pretty sad to run down the list of all the car companies and other concerns who were around before the 2nd World War who couldn't survive the aftermath.
