Since I am not a Chrysler enthusiast, I always assumed that all Hemis were Chrysler products.
I just got a rude awakening when the AACA Museum created a new display called “yeah it’s a hemi”
I have learned that many manufacturers over the years used a hemispherical cylinder head design and some of them were before Chrysler used the design.
I have listed some of the cars and motorcycles that are on display at the AACA museum in Hershey at this time.
This display will be available to be viewed up until April of next year
This display of Hemi’s is not a complete list, And some of the cars like the Boss 429 May be described as a semi Hemi.

    1957 Ac Bristol,Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin DB five, 1937 BMW 328, 1953 Chrysler New Yorker, 1958 Chrysler 300 D, 1952 Cunningham C-3, 1967 Diamler V8 250, 1956 De Soto adventurer, 1955 dodge custom royal lancer, 1957D 500 Dodge, 1930 Dusenburg ,1980 Ford escort, 1969 jaguar XKE, 1959 MGA twin cam, 1970 boss 429 mustang, 1970 hemi Cuda, 1972 911 Porsche Targa, Saab Sonnet 2,
1956 hemi Healy race car, Harley Davidson motorcycle, and a variety of display engines including Ardun flat head 417 Donovan aluminum race motor and various Chrysler hemi‘s.
This is not a complete list of cars motorcycles and engines that are on display. This is just a sampling.

I believe that Chrysler has copyrighted the word Hemi.

  10. They have been around since the IC engine was invented. WWII aircraft engines used them. Chrysler was the first company to make them readily available to the unwashed masses. And what a magnificent job they did!!

If true I find that odd, considering that the Gen 3 doesn’t even have a hemispherical combustion chamber.

You can call pig shit an omelet, but it's still pig shit.

Harley Davidson made them available to the unwashed masses in 1936.

  17. Yes they did, and all OHV Big Twins up to 1984 were Hemis. Sportsters from 1957-1985 were Hemis as well.

The Daimler V8 'hemi' was designed by Edward Turner, and the hemi layout was chosen because he had designed most of the Triumph twin motorcycle engines, which used hemi combustion chambers, and by chance the Daimler engineer that did most of the Daimler prototype engine development had worked before WW2 for Riley on the Riley 2.5L Big Four which was a 4 cyl DOHC hemi engine.

Not sure if you are serious. However I think they are cool engines. I have two Toyota 4 cylinder Hemis on ‘the shelf’. One is a 2TC 1600 cc, the other a 3TC 1800cc. Been thinking about some little Roadster......’27 T ish or maybe something OT, light weight.

It wouldn't be too hard to make that Toy Hemi look vintage. Those are really nice exhaust manifolds, too.

DSCF0629.JPG After the Fifth place finish in the 1923 INDY 500 the Chevrolet brothers were more than happy to sell you a twin cam, 16 valve HEMI for your Model T Ford. Bob

I love it to. It is exactly like one I owned in 1965-66. Same exact colors. Mine wasn't this nice, though. The engine from that car ended up on my first "T" bucket. Never had a single problem with it.

I still have two; one in my race car and one "under the stairs",

  27. Here is the Daimler SP 250 engine from the above entry.
Perfect engine for a Model A. early 60s Hot Rod.
Just add some 97s! or maybe a Scot blower!

You need to re-do your definitions. Fords made in Mexico, Chevy's made in Canada while Subarus, Toyotas and Hondas are made in the US. What's an import?

The Riley engine was a hemi, and had two cams, but they were in the block and operated the valves by pushrods. A cool engine from a small company. The engine was used in early Healeys and remained in production until 1957.
