Had to remove about 2’ of frame to match the original truck. I couldn’t believe how many people gave me a hard time. “Put a compressor there” “Make the body longer” “Put tool boxes” Yeah those are all great ideas but it wasn’t how the original was. My least favorite part. Body work. I went in sections. It was just too much surface area for me to do in one shot.
This was a very difficult decision. I had no intention of putting a nice paint job on it. I was going to paint it to match the cab and to me it would feel like I really had the original truck. After all the hard work it took to get this far i couldn’t bring myself to leave it to rust. I decided to put a decent paint job on the truck. But I used a straight enamel from tractor supply because I knew it would fade in the sun. My uncle is a lifelong body man so he helped me quite a bit on the body and paint. Like a lot of old trucks the parking brake is inoperable. Mine had been left on dragging. So I turned the shoes around and made a new adjuster nut. It works excellent now.
Out of respect for the rules of the page I have to leave the engine swap part out. Let’s just say it’s fuel injected and it hauls ass.
Thanks for posting! Excellent Work! There was a junkyard like that in our town that my dad worked at in 70s and 80s. They had a 66 C30 wrecker that he couldn't afford to buy when they sold out/scrapped out in the 90's. Maybe someday we will build one like you did.
