Im ready to build an exhaust system for my roadster....will be using block hugger headers and have a question about what size pipe to use....mild built 4 bolt main 350, mild roller cam, roller rockers and th350 trans......the headers come with 2.5" to 2" flanged adapter for 2" tubing but was wondering if I should go to 2.25" or 2.50 inch tubing from collector back....I am removing the lakester style exhaust to run a milder sounding mufflered system....

Either will work. The smaller it is, the easier it will be to fit. It doesn't sound like you really need the couple extra HP the larger system might give you.

I was thinking 2 1/4, which seems to be what you had in mind. 2" would work too...you'd lose a bit more performance, though.

I'd go 2 1/2 from headers to mufflers, and 2 1/4 from mufflers to the rear bumper.

I've got to go with Jim on this one. 2 inch might fit under the car a whole lot better than 2-1/4 although i have run 2-1/4 on most of my OT V8 powered rigs. The guy who did the exhaust on my 51 Merc with the 350R Olds in it cussed a blue streak when he was fighting with the 2-1/4 pipe under it but it sure sounded nice but I had a 455 that I was building for it and the larger pipe was intended to be used with the 455.

If you’ve been fighting noise and looking for a quiet as you can do successfully I would go 2”, the longest or fattest muffler you can even adding augers in front of them and tail pipes out the back. You can chrome tip them like traditional or turn down and flat cut to hide them. I like both. For really quiet go to one of the aftermarket cast iron exhaust manifolds like Sanderson. Good luck

I am running similar power and ran 2" through a pair of Brockman mellow tones. Super happy with tone and noise level. 2" will be easier to snake through the frame if you are looking to keep it tucked up high

The difference in performance between a 2" pipe and a 2 1/2" pipe won't become noticeable until you get into the upper rpm range, and then the differences won't amount to much. The higher RPM range that would effect the performance rarely happens on a street driven vehicle. Gene

  20. I was going to ask how you were doing; glad to hear you're okay, and your property still seems good too.

I'm curious Ron, are your lakes headers baffled?

2 1/4" from block huggers back to mufflers (Under rear seat) where it steps up to 2 1/2". Tail pipes are 2 1/2", decent sound and average performance for a stock 5lt SBC.
