Technical Stewart Warner Gauges Basics

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Little Terry, Sep 14, 2020.

  1. Buy a 600 ohm 5 watt variable resistor,
Wire gage with resistor as the sending unit.
Adjust resistor so you get lowest reading on the gage. Now measure the resistance
Adjust resistor for max indication on gage.
    Again measure resistance.

Part numbers should be stamped in the side of the senders

Measuring my SW sender, 362-B, It's .42k ohms = 420 ohms at 71degrees Fahrenheit, room temperature.
Even thou this one came out of a SW box, doesn't mean it's a good unit and I have not installed it to verify it's condition.
dumprat could check his unmarked units at the same room temperature to see how they compare to mine.
