Have a transmission I'm looking at and wondering if I can get some knowledge from anyone on here. Transmission is off a 2.2 said to be in working order. Thanks for your help.

If you mean 2.2L 4 cylinder as used in the S-10 from '93 and newer, it's World Class and has a Ford mounting pattern. Not sure if that matters to you, but it's worth knowing.

That transmission has a few features that makes it less favorable.

It has an electronic speedometer drive.

It has the lower 4.03:1 first gear ratio set. This was needed to get a heavy S10 moving with a small engine. In a lightweight hot rod, it is almost too low to be useful, and there is a big step between 1st and 2nd gears.

This website has an excellent listing of all production variations of the T-5 offering info tag Model #, whether World Class/Non-World Class, gear ratios and OEM application.

I’m going to look thru this thread but have a question. My T5 is having trouble downshifting. Took it to a transmission shop. He says it is not a a “world class” T5, and they no longer manufacture replacement parts for this particular trans. That’s kinda hard to believe. Does anyone know of a source for parts to rebuild an older T5?

Check out hanlonmotorsports.com for T-5 parts - I had Bob Hanlon rebuild one of my world class T-5's.

Update: my transmission guy says it’s not the general rebuild parts (synchro and seals) he can’t find, it’s the main parts like the shafts and gears. So I’m looking for another NWC T5. Message me if you have an S-10 or or one that has similar length shafts.

  17. I think you need to find a new transmission guy as the one you have doesn't want to work on yours. Learn to do it yourself. Not hard and there are numerous tutorials on line. If you do run into trouble you will have all of the parts your trans guy can't get and lay them all on his bench.

I guess your transmission guy has enough money.

Hey, it looks like Astro Performance is going out of business. Their website is down and and some have posted on other forums recently, that orders aren’t being filled.

Is there another way to get parts for a non-world class T5? Not the synchros and gaskets, gears and shafts.

I just talked to Texas Drivetrain performance. Seems like a nice guy and knowledgeable. Said they did a lot of work for Astro in the past and can make or possibly repair my parts.

I may be on track to get this thing fixed.

I am interested in that swap. Is there a big trick to it?

The parts are getting scarce. Cores for manual speedo trans have just about dried up. I currently have 4 S10 T5 trans being done for my customers with several others pending. It takes patience to build these as some of our parts are coming out of CA and there's been delays. My trans guy always comes thru but it takes time.

When I was looking for mine a couple years ago, there was s steady supply on kijiji (Canada’s version of Craigs List). I picked up two, and parts for a third from a guy getting rid of hus stash for CAN$250. I think I might even have the S10 case. Too bad I’m north of the border. I found this site useful as well as the British site previously mentioned to help identify stuff.
