Chrome buckets in the tail light housing are from home/commercial recessed ceiling lighting, a trick that I discovered back in the 90's when building a '51 Merc. I was waiting in a slow moving line at the bank, looking around, waiting, waiting. Looked up at dropped ceiling to see these kind of lights and a light bulb went off in my head, so to speak.

This is the kustom I was most excited about getting to see in person. Historic kustom art right here. No disappointment. Stunning! Mark will be another great caretaker of the sweet ride.

Fun times in Dewey. Thanks Mick, for hosting such a great kustom show. I really enjoyed the Kustom Konference you set up in your shop stall, listening and learning about the Wichita way, and What is a Kustom, as opposed to a Custom. Also kool to hear what influenced car guys to become Kustom guys.

Here's the shop and then the man himself in the last pic.

@wicarnut I hope some one will post pics of the drive to, and tour of, Starbird's Museum in Afton OK. My wife and I went the opposite direction to Pawhuska OK where Food Network's Pioneer Woman is located. Damn good eats, I'll spare you the food and ice cream pics and just show the Chevy out front of The Mercantile, or as they call it, "the Merc". Drummond Ranch Dodge Power Wagon appears to be a permanent fixture out front.

I talked to you at the hotel, about your Jeffery Allen's. Sorry I didn't realize who I was talking to, I'd have visited more. In fact, that is my only regret of the weekend, time was too short to get to meet and know more people. Koooool Mild Olds you are cruising.

My dad had a blue 50 Old's 4 door back in the day, then found a match to the car in the 80's at a farm sale. Bought it and I help him flat tow it home. Wish I'd had seen the potential of that car before it was sold off.

  11. Yep, I remember talking to you as well. Maybe we need to start wearing name tag's, huh?

  12. Thanks for the pics guys. Many of those cars I have not seen before. I wonder where they've been hiding? :)

Who doesn't like old neon signs? This was in Bartlesville next to the car wash that Mick suggested. Also saw two Arby's fast food that had the old neon cowboy hat, still working.

    GREAT PICS I LUV KUSTOMS

  17. I saw that sign too while at the car wash early Saturday morning and thought it was cool. I should have done like you though and took a pic. But, I may have still been in shock over the price of the car wash which had me thinking on other things...and, that I needed to get back to the hotel and get my kids up and going.

Thanks for posting all the pics!

    1956chevyRickWilsonRodPowell.jpg

'56 Chevy was owned by a fella named Mike. Car looked familiar to me, so asked him if he was an auto illustrator. I had Mike's flamed and scalloped '56 confused with Rick Wilson's former car built by Rod Powell (above).

Mike got an award with his '56. The bumper's did stand out to me as koool. Not chrome, but silver with the red licks of flame. Nice! Also notice the rear bumper guards are molded onto the bumper.

And the blue '56 Windsor mild kustom ... a mile long, probably sleeps 6 in the trunk.

  20. Yep, I got to know Mike with the flamed 56 Chevy fairly well this trip. I have always liked his car, just never met him in person. He is a great guy and it is a cool ride. The bumpers are actually fiberglass as I got to looking at them close. I also got to know their foreign exchange student some from Belgium. She wasn’t sure what to think of all this car stuff...or a bunch of gear heads hanging out in hotel parking lot until wee hours of the morning.

Oh, and I guess she got to learn to drive Sunday in Tim Powell’s flamed 56 Mercury. She can’t drive in Belgium yet, but has now driven something most kids never will...especially in Belgium.

Kool to see ya Paul. You arrived in style riding in Danny's Model A. It has been a few years since I've seen ya. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Good to hear that you had a good time visiting and talking about kustoms.

@54delray Thank you for adding your pics to the thread. I enjoyed visiting with you face to face instead of just thru the HAMB. We loved your Chevy thank you for bringing it to the show...

The wheel covers on the above yellow '51 Olds convertible .... Any idea? The white '57 Ranchero in front of StrayKat HQ was also running them. I'm guessing 60's Buick?

  26. I'm no expert on hubcaps, but I'd guess those are '69 or '70 Buick Special (with optional 15 inch wheels), LeSabre or Wildcat hubcaps. These were used on many models, the only difference is the center medallion was changed out for different models.
Great pics Bill, thanks for the snapshot tour. Almost as good as being there..........well, maybe not, but thanks man! Hated to miss the show but just had too much other stuff going on to get away.
Glad to see @drdave made the journey in the Merc, or the "beater Merc" as I think he is calling it these days (lol). Lots of great sleds there, many that I have seen before and a nice group of new iron I hadn't seen before. Mick (@straykatkustoms) definitely knows how to throw a great shindig! I'm really hoping to get down to Dewey one of these years very soon!
I had something to mention to those that went to the show. I know that Bill Moore usually attends this show, and I didn't see any pics of his Galaxie 'vert, Earth Angel or even his "ol' farm truck" in the background. I know he has been having health issues and I was wondering if anybody knows how he is doing. He's a great guy and I hope he is doing well. E

Evening Ed, Bill Moore is doing just fine. He had a funeral to attend on the day of the show. He met us at Starbird’s museum during the kustom Kruise.

  30. That T-bird is also sporting a Hemi. :)

Good to see you Paul (and the rest of you guys). Been too long since we've all been able to hang out. Yup, @OG lil E, the "beater merc" made the trip. Ran great and enjoyed being back out on the open road...it hasn't made a road trip in over 5 years, just driver duty around home. It was good to stretch it's legs again.
