I know its real, and looks great.

I just want to know what you had to do to get it looking that way. Obviously your paint looked like my Pontiac's at one point.

I've heard people using scotch brite pads, or some type of boiled lin seed oil concoction...

this sort of clarifies something that I have been struggling with. My most recent cars and all my bikes were finished looking with nice paint. I picked up a new project that has great patina and I am going to build the car to include that look. Where I have been struggling is the bumpers have peeling chrome. It authenticates the look but after seeing this, I think good chrome and old weathered paint works best.

upload_2022-11-6_7-27-19.png Speaking of low riders and Bombs, it is worth mentioning that it is unfortunate that @toshihide4828 and other Japanese HAMBers all left the HAMB about 10 years ago, for other social media sites. The custom and low rider (and hot rod) scene over there, especially Nagoya, Japan is mind blowingly awesome - you just won't believe how good it is. Or was ten years ago. HAMBers like @Mark in Japan, @Comet, and @Jive-Bomber have all seen it first hand and can testify to the dripping cool of this part of Japanese culture.
I wish Toshihide's pics were still in his old thread, and his old website has become something else altogether, no longer cars.

Everyone seems to know about Mooneyes in Yokohama, but the scene in Nagoya is completely overlooked. Maybe Mark or Jay or Comet can chime in and attach a current good link?
Edit: I did find Toshi's blog:

    It's a Hupmobile, I'm guessing about a '33.

    REAL CLOSE IT'S A 1932 HUPMOBILE
WRONG all 32 Hupps have straight grill bars, they went curved in 33 and 34.

Anyway this Japanese love affair with HAMB-friendly American made cars is something to behold, wish we still had some of these guys her on the HAMB.

    Hello,
As hot rod guys that came back from the wars fell back into society, the hot rod junkyard jalopies started as a low cost project for transportation. But, that was the 40s as the original poster wanted to see. With little money as always, the 40s struggled until the money started coming back into play. Even he started the topic, but skipped to 50s cars for emphasis. The lowriders took just as much money as a hot rod roadsters and that was a struggle.

So, how does a 50s-60s custom car fit into the topic of 30s- 40s lowrider custom cars? The local lore of Lowriders started coming up in various cities in So Cal around the early 50s. The popular idea from most research on the topic stems from the same aspect of hot rod roadsters and coupes versus lowered Chevy Sedans during those very early times. They worked with what they had or were able to modify to their tastes.

    Jnaki

Further research from the old guys that are now grandparents and great grandparents seems to be the key. For all others, the posts of 50s Chevys is out of place in a 40s topic subject. Not much is available for 30s-40s Lowrider History.

Those 50s-60s photos and information can go into the LOW RIDERS, ZOOTS SUITERS AND "PACHUCOS" thread with a no limit year, photos. But, not all young folks were Pachucos... either, so said my dad about what they did as young teens and the adult dress up era. YRMV

Man that’s cool, so many cars. Not many without a visor either.

Is there reason for the lack of Fomoco or are they not quite the look/style they are going for?

Bombs and Lowriders were my intro to old cars, so I'll always have a special place in my heart for them. I still have my 52 Styline I shared earlier in this thread. Being a custom guy I made some subtle changes. We shaved the decklid & moved the license plate to the bumper & molded in the splash pan. Lowered the bumper to sit tight to the pan and added 50 Dodge tail lights off my first 50s car the "Lonestar Mopar" & extended fender skirts that match the body line. We'll keep most of the trim, but I removed the Deluxe badges and gave em to my buddy @pecker head. Im not into adding all of the gadgets and factory accessories or that stuff, but I do have a few select pieces. Like 49 Plate guards, on both ends, customized wingtips aka bumper ends and cleaning up some factory seams. Ive got a built 261 with a real cool old Dual carb Fenton intake and headers w the heat riser mated to a T5. In the end I guess it'll be a custom Bomba..

I always figured Chevys and Mopars were more popular as lowriders because they had independent front suspension when Fords were running a beam axle up front and a transverse leaf rear up to 1948. Coil springs in front and parallel leafs in the rear are way easier to replace with a hydraulic ram (or just cut in half) to lower. But the Chevs did still have the torque tube, which has it's own issues to contend with. Or maybe the used Fords got bought up by the hot rodder crowd? Did those two cliques not want to look like each other?

All complete guesses based on nothing really. Interesting though. I do love me some bombas though. The incredible attention to details really gets me.

Chevys, it`s because of the dual exhaust on the 6`s. You cruise around town in a lowrider listening to the sounds of the pipes. The lowered stance came first, then later the hydraulics came about. Which most people think a lowrider is. But what do I know.
