Went on a Vette adventure Labor Day Weekend. Car buddy Mike bought this one, he is now the third owner. Last licensed in 1989. I was the tow guy, stopped by my house to show the lovely Mrs. 99, she says "That thing is[insert expletive here] cool, we should get one!" Yep she's a keeper. 62 always my favorite year.

What do you think that deflector on the hood is for? Bugs on the windshield?

Maybe break up the "boundary layer" of air over the hood so it flows into those vents or pulls more air out?

Believe it or not, its to kick the rain over the windshield. When we ran in IMSA in the 80's , we ran the same setup at Daytona 24hrs and Sebring. It was very beneficial on the long races.

31HRG it's to late for me to fix that. When I sold mine in 86 I got $8600. I saw it in Massachusetts 2 years ago and the guy wouldn't sell it, even for $46000. So it's best I finish my 57 Belair.

Just to be clear, not mine but sure wish it was. I was just the tow rig guy. Mike gave the car a little TLC since we drug it home, got it running and stopping a lot better so we went out and played a little hot rod hoodlum yesterday. Well we actually went to a small picnic with other old guys!

    Hello,

When we were traveling the 65 mile distance, one way to Riverside Raceway as teens, we knew we had to get there early. So, we planned on an early departure from our Long Beach house. Back in those times, the freeways were not there and the road to get there was the same direction, but an early winding road to the Riverside City limits.

We got there early, parked and started our early morning journey through the pits. This Corvette was parked in one of the lots and was probably a new one, since in those days, new cars came out in September/October and this drag race day was in late December. Since it was December, it was cold walking through the pits. (even the movie camera was cold...) But, as the warm sun started its journey, it got hot, very quickly and remained so all day.

The other Corvette just down the pit row parking area was already set up to race, including those cool Traction Master bars underneath.

These wheels look like another manufacturers version of Americans 200 S nick named daisy or coke bottle mags. But the hoop end of the spokes differ as they tapper at the outboard end. The center caps make me think of Mickey Thompson. Anyone know for sure?

  20. Mickey Thompson never made a wheel like that. U.S. Mags copied them as well as Western Wheel Co.. i believe those are Western from the early 70's by the shape if the spokes

I think your right. I thought the center caps had a red M on them. It is probably a Western W.

I think those louvers on the hood of the 60 Lemans Corvette was to let air escape.

I "liked" it because it's a modified 62 Corvette but I think there is too much s$%t sticking above the hood line. And the scoop looks like a 3 gal bucket. Sorry if I offended anyone.
