Why, it's only a Chevy?

 

Spent the day wiring up and plumbing my new air compressor- the old one went tits up right in the middle of a project (of course!). I finally broke down and bought a big vertical tank rig with enough volume to paint and run air tools; I can actually try my hand at painting! I've always had to make do with small compressors that required frequent breaks to let the compressor catch up when using air tools- no more of that!!
Yeah, I'm a little excited, a new air compressor is a major event these days..... I don't get out much, lol.

 

With the help of @harley jim , I solved a couple of problem's that have been destroying my sleep for weeks. Namely, how to make my radiator and grille shell fit and how to mount them. I laminated 3 pieces of 1" foam insulation board and formed it into the same size and shape as a 65-66 Mustang radiator. Grille shell is 49 OT Oliver. I like the Oliver 'cause it looks aerodynamic and the Mustang radiator cause it fits inside the shell just right. The grille shell will look really good with 3/8" vertical tubes formed to fit it's rounded shape. Think of it as a poor man's track nose

 

Finishing up on the A/c in the 65 chev truck . Ran the defr oster tubes and vent tubes behind the dash Got the new glove box in !

 

Pulled the engine out of my 59 Vette project today. Turned out to be a 57 283 block punched out to 301, had big pop up pistons and 1970 double hump heads with 2.02 valves. When I pulled the pushrods I could see pipe cleaners stuffed in em The other guys in the shop had never seen that before.I explained this was done back in the day to restrict oil to the top end.It also had a huge home made deep sump pan that was pretty crude. Good day in my book.

 

Helped Club brother dial in timing and carb on his 427 CSX Cobra
Then proceeded to not only accidentally snap off the clear float level indicator, but after removing and installing front float bowl, stripped one of the upper retaining bolts

Procrastinated for some time but finally convinced my 76 year old body to drill the 15 rivets out of a junk wide 5 Ford rim to provide a center take along in the search for suitable wider 15"-16"-18" donor hoops, I was shocked it took just shy of 35 min. Glad to give suggestions & tips to anyone wanting to do the same . Be safe everyone, Ron Baker

Won the N-3 Nostalgic class at Island Dragway's 60th anniversary meet. My brother and my nephew were there to help, watch and enjoy the win with me. Family "Rocks" Be safe everyone.

Started making a Carson top for my roadster.

 

Lowered the ass end of my 49. FedEx showed up with the kit and I literally had it all put together in about 40 minutes. Hadn't even torqued it yet but had to get it out to go pick up my son at school.

 

Started on trans cooler lines

 

I found out about a guy with a garage full of chevy parts for sale... I managed a little bit of bottom feeding...

 

Finished one cover, slipped it over the seat to get a look. Should snug up a bit after the seat foam is in place. Happy with it for a first shot at this upholstery stuff. The old Studebaker might not be the fastest, but it will look good trying.

 

Out running errands tonight and I spotted a nice 55 wagon with it’s hood up at the BP. It was still there on my return trip so I wheeled in to offer help. It turned out to be a long time acquaintance in a new to him '55 Chevy wagon. The ground cable was loose so it was a quick fix. The 55 was pretty cool, once Steve sorts out a few things it’ll make a nice cruiser...

 

I rebuilt a distributor for the Goose. She runs good now!! Watch out here I come !!!!

Came across some measurements on the Ford Barn for the back panel a while back; finally made one yesterday. Now just need to pull and paint it.

September 17th 2020 Had a false start on getting my ambition back. It's a process. My deep ponder mode ruminations tell me that one day of work in the shop is an anomaly, three continuous days, a pattern, six days a trend, twelve days a habit and twenty-four days a discipline.

On Labor Day, the daily heat wave temperature dropped a couple of degrees, just enuf to jump start garage activity again.

Found a vertex magneto for the nailhead build and bought it as a birthday present to myself. I've been looking for one of these for a few years now. I was beginning to fear Tommy Ivo had used them all up. This thing was new in the box. A couple of bronze gears were included as well.

 

Made a gizmo to set the serrated hinge pins without having to pound on the hinge and chance moving them or cracking the paint. Actually worked quite well.

 

Squirted some paint on the fixit to the rear fender belonging to the Vicky

Well last couple days been dealing with aftermath of Hurricane Sally in coastal Alabama. Worked on generator to get it going after sitting (my fault for not starting it more often) then hooking up cords to various parts of house. Then helping elderly neighbor with tree fallen on house and keeping his generator running and full of gas. Trees down everywhere. But life is good and thankful wife and I or none of neighbors were hurt. Have a lot of clean up to do but have a way to cook, refrigerator running for a cold beer after working, no A/C but fan running. Nothing like the sound of generators in the wee hours and probably a week plus without electricity. But this too shall pass! The price you pay for not shoveling snow.

 

Filled the gas tank in my '50 for the 10th time this summer. I should check to see how many miles I've gone.

 

Built some battery cables for my 49 to replace the crappy ones that were on it. I used welding lead cable and brass ends. Fires off beautifully everytime now.
