Technical sbc engine question...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rustydusty, Sep 12, 2020.

  1. I am sure this is yet another one of my stupid questions, but what is a 355 Chevy? I always assumed that it was a bored out 350, but it comes up so often, I am starting to wonder...

Just a .030 over rebuilt 350. No big deal.

It’s like my 296” Y-Block... huh? I gave up years ago adding bore inches.

I used to see them in stock cars all the time. One of my friends raced in some semi-professional racing circuit, and I think it was some standard. for engine size. (It was a long time ago.)

The .030 overbore is kind of considered the first true overbore that will cleanup a 350 block that has a lot of wear in the cylinders, most all of the major piston mfgs offered the plus .030 in a number of compression ratios.
My Novas' 327/350 hp engine required a .040 overbore to cleanup the bores.

When I raced with USAC, their cubic inch limit was 355. Since small block Chevy's were the norm that allowed a 0.030 in over-bore.
