Needing a windshield frame for my 31 tudor and locally most I've found have been severely rusted away and the price on others on line are expensive. So I was curious if any of you gents have had success building your own? if so how did you do it and what did you use? With measurements it doesnt look like it would be terribly hard but I haven't had a frame in my hand to study. any feed back would be appreciated....
Years ago a guy showed us how he made gutters for his 32 sedan. His methods could produce the parts of a windshield
Do a Google search on "built my own windshield hamb" and you discover lots of threads. Unfortunately, most of the threads are old and the pictures are missing.
I thought about it and then realized if I was paying myself to build it then I could buy 3 of them brand new.
I built the one on my T-Bucket out of a piece of 1/2” black iron pipe from Lowe’s. I cut a 5/16” slot in it with a cut off wheel. I attach the top bar by drilling a hole on each end of the top bar and another hole on the top outside of each upright bar. I welded a piece of 1/4” threaded rod at a 90 degree angle to attach the top bar.
If you enjoy doing fab work, it is definitely worth building your own. I have under $20 in my windshield frame.
I don't believe the 31 Tudor uses a tubular frame.. isn't it is a flat convexed shape with a channel for a seal ?
Well, if it’s a hot rod it doesn’t have to be exactly factory correct, right? It depends what the guy likes and wants.
Thanks for the replies guys, appreciate it. Yeah I found some here but the informative ones with pics seem to all be roadsters etc. No closed car threads I could find with pics and steps...
