Projects Nature has a way to eliminate no longer productive people

  1. Great advice. My wife had to do the prep for a colonoscopy yesterday, and she almost threw me down the stairs while attempting to get to the bathroom. She was as effective as a 300 lb lineman.
I weigh 200 lb, and she moved me like I was on wheels.

  4. Every year on June 5th I used to participate in a commemorative HALO jump. The last few years that I did the jump I popped my chute at 1500' instead of letting it pop at the predetermined 1200'. One guy started harassing me about it and he was told that if you saw the x rays of his knees you would be asking him why in the heII do you even do this?
I answered, respect and to honor the men that did it. I have not done it for the last two years and will be denied when both knees are replaced. VA keeps saying every year, "You need knee replacements." I tell them I may need them but I do not want them, just give me another shot in them.:D

Colonoscopy prep means you get stuck in the house for a day or so. Awesome time to do some work on the car. Not such a good idea to be under the hood, and decide that a bolt needs one. more. pull. to make sure its tight. Not that I know anything about that .

    Cheers,

My next colonoscopy is scheduled for next month. The last time I had one polyp and they moved me out of the 10 year span to the 5 year span group. I can hardly wait!

No worries about knee replacements, however. Mine are relatively new and made out of titanium so I checked that one off my list.

  10. One advantage of being 77, is that the specialist has determined that a colonoscopy is a high risk procedure for us old people. Before he will do one, a person has to have failed the test that checks the stool sample for signs of bleeding. So far, these have been negative.
The friends I have with the older knee replacements, complained about not having enough flexibility. They were not able to bend the knees beyond 09 degrees, which really restricted their movement. I hope flexibility of your knee(s) is better than that.

Never make fun of the Dr's assistants as they dawn their plastic smocks and face shields. Who'd a thought there'd be shit flying around?

  13. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten off the creeper at work, walked into the office, looked at my boss and said “what did I come in here for?” I’m also only 46, but all of the mechanics work under me (Lead Technician) and I can blame them, damn kids. They’re all younger than I am. They are also the reason I have gray hair.

I was pretty sure this sort of thing was caused by global hardening. Not a lot of people talk about it, but I've noticed recently the ground has become much harder than it used to be.

Was dragging out parts of cut up jacuzzi when I tripped over backwards over a decorative log I just placed there earlier that week. Tore three ligaments in left shoulder. Finally feeling better a year later. Two weeks ago did some yard work, cut down some big branches with pole saw. Left arm’s in agony since. I’ve bounced back from motorcycle accidents better than this. :(

Help ! I've fallen and can't get up. When young we bounce, When old we go splat ! When young remember everything, When old can't remember anything, Takes all night to do what we used to do all night, When old far more talking than doing, 5 minute job now 5 days, That's my story and sticking to it.

  21. I feel for ya,, I recently lost my superman badge, I’ve fallen off plenty of things but it was the first time I’ve fallen off a ladder, and not had time to prepare for the landing, landed flat on my back and knocked myself senseless when the back off my head slammed into the ground. Never happened before!
Came around to my mate lending over me freeking out thinking I was badly hurt. ( or possibly had to give me mouth to mouth ).
Was depressed for days after that, realised my time was coming.
Talking to the wife the other night and she mentioned I could get a seniors card soon, Fuck!
    ain’t no going back now.
Enjoy while you can, this ain’t no practice run!!!

If the problem is worn joints there is one thing that will regrow the cartilage in worn joints and that is Sam E. I started taking it for depression and 3 weeks later was free of back and knee pain for the first time in years. My back and knees were worn from years of being overweight and working manual labor jobs. As long I keep taking it my knees and back are in good shape.

  26. Thanks Rusty but it is a little more than worn joints. Meniscus tears and former knee surgeries pretty much dictate the eventual replacement.

Haha, funny thread! I can relate to a lot of this, though at 62 I still feel pretty good. I have noticed though how long it takes to recover from an injury these days. Something I would be over in about a week when I was younger now takes months (years?) to recover from. And a lot of those old injuries from back in the day come back to haunt you on certain days.

So to follow up on something Rusty O"Tool mentioned, what are you all doing to take care of your health, maintain what you got?

I do a full regimen of vitamins and supplements, only on 1 prescription drug for cholesterol, but I take a multi-vitamin, and add another for C and another for D, also Omega 3 oils, and garlic, and a few others. I also try to exercise regularly, I have a regiment for stretching and floor exercises I've been doing for decades that really helps to ward off back pain and sciatica, and I have a route I try to walk 3 times a week, up a nasty hill in my neighborhood that is about a 2.5 mile round trip, takes me about 40 minutes. (That hill is my nemesis, it kicks my ass every time)

Right now I've developed some numbness in my left hand & pain my shoulder I'm doing physical therapy twice a week for, and have an appt to see an orthopedic surgeon about it.

You have to stay on top of these things, or they all start to add up.

  28. Haven't been productive in years, doubt age had anything to do with it however.

  29. I hope you aren't in too much pain. My wife needs a replacement, and she told them to stuff it, unless and until the knee becomes so much of a problem that she needs to have it done. The doctor told her, "In that case, you will have to go on the waiting list from the date she requests the replacement." It has been over 7 years, and although there are days that she moves it in a way that causes her pain for a few days, but she is still happy with her decision.
The recovery from this surgery is no joke.
    Good for you.
