Alright, I have a 54 Mercury 2door sedan and I need a gas tank, does anyone have suggestions for where I can find one?

Every time I find one online it says discontinued and I’ve also heard that the 55’s are close but different.

Really would like to stay with a stock type tank, and really can’t afford to have one built right now.

I pulled mine from a 1953 Mercury 4 door. It would need to be cleaned and sealed. It’s sitting in the barn. Although we just evacuated for fires. It’s available if our stuff survives the fires. Also had to leave this behind D7A8614A-5A52-4E07-96E3-9C119072D8D6.jpeg

Yikes!!!! That’s not fun but can be replaced. We are just getting a lot of smoke and a bit of ash here. Wish you luck Firedup.

I'm assuming a '54 Merc tank is the same as a '54 Ford tank. I just installed a '55 tank in my '54 Ford Customline. All that was needed was to lengthen the mounting straps a tad. I used the straps that came with the tank for the front then cut the rear sections off my original straps and spliced them on. One other thing I did was to shorten the filler neck an inch but that was more for cosmetic purposes.

In addition, one of the members here is selling his good condition '54 Ford tank. Jim is located in Washington. Contact 'shortshift' here on the HAMB. He said he was gonna list it on CL
Actually, this may be his CL listing...…

  5. The Merc tank is 19 gallons, the Ford is 16.9.... so there's a size difference.

I checked Auto City Classics and no listing. They usually are a good source for more unique tanks but no go for yours.

Man do I feel for y’all out on the west coast! Please stay safe!

I should have pulled the tank out of my 55 before i traded it off a few weeks ago, had a brand new tank in it...and a 54 4 door is what started my Mercury collection about 10 years ago, then it snowballed into 52, 54 and 55 2 door hardtops, a 53 convertible and the remaining 54 post 2 door I have now. Glad I have property and a very supportive wife..lol

Check out the RCI 20 gallon aluminum fuel cell... Run dual 3/8" lines to the mechanical fuel pump from the sump and you'll have a fuel system that will support most 10 second cars...

  12. It's ironic that Auto City Classics offers a 52-54 Ford station wagon gas tank when know one else has them but when I purchased mine the did have one for the passenger cars, but I see they don't list it anymore. HRP

I wanted to stay with the Y-block and 3spd, Dad wanted 302 and T5, his car at the time and we had just finished installing the driveline a few weeks before he passed away last year. I’m just trying to do Dad proud

Our stuff survived the fires. We are still in L2 evacuation though. Rain coming soon hopefully. Along with that may come flash flooding. Only time will tell. Did you end up getting the tank from eBay?
