I searched around and I think this may be a Y-block intake. Judges?

    Y Block double teapot manifold.

  6. '56-57 312 option (dealer-installed IIRC), and the last hurrah for the Holley teapot carb. Be aware other carbs won't fit this intake, so these are really only of interest to restorers.

Not easy, but the creative mind of Doane Spencer put two 4160 Holleys on one in his T-bird. He cut off the coolant crossover/thermostat housing, fabricated water manifolds and a new crossover, used carburetor adapters, turned one carb 180* so they would fit and worked out the trick linkage. Fit and finish was important to him too, it was a work of art.

Check those carb. numbers (located on the base). If true correct dual four carbs there worth big $.

Thanks Eddie. I will have to get back over there to see. What numbers would we hope for?
I took the picture while looking at a bunch of stuff. I need to see if there is damage on the water jacket after really looking at picture.
I was more interested in a 6x2 for a different engine.

I zoomed in and it looks like some aluminum showing where paint is chipped.

  13. It is a Ford Y Block dual quad aluminum manifold.

Will have ECG 9424 D cast on the bottom.

The carbs are 56 units as they have spark valves on the sides. Certainly are not correct Ford "E" Code carbs BUT possibly could be the ultra rare 56 dual quad over the counter "Race Kit" carbs for the 56 dual quad setup (NOT LIKELY)

Those finned valve covers look like T Bird valve covers for a Y Block also.Might want to see if you can acquire those also.

Those manifolds are pleantyfull and availiable for around the $350.00 range.

If you go after it make sure that its not cracked on the bottom or at the mounting ears. Those manifolds require a special valley pan and will crack if installed without that special pan.I"ve seen more broken manifolds than good ones.

    Thanks Oldmics
The guy passed away and had a few things squirreled away. I think these items will get ebayed but if they chose to just dump them I am first in line. I thought of Matt's @IronTrap young minion with the Y block and the sweet 16 project.

The front carb is a ‘55 unit. The rear is a ‘56. I doubt it’s a rare dual quad kit carb as there is no annular ring on the boost jet visible through the choke plate opening. It’s also missing the vacuum secondary actuator. So, the ‘56 carb may only be good for parts. The ‘55 looks complete and may be functional.
Post the numbers (located on the flange at the back of the carb), we’ll be able to tell what Ford/Mercury they are from.

    1956: R-1268 (both)
    1957 S/T: R-1434 (both)
    1957 A/T: R-1434 (rear), R-1437 (front)

The earliest 1956 manifold was set up for Carters 2361s (both), but Holleys were cheaper.

Later teapots (Haystack Holleys) used by Ford were the R-1536 and R-1599 on 1957 Birds.

The R-1599 to my knowledge is the last teapot to be used on cars. Heavy duty trucks, that needed more reliability than the 4150's, and didn't require the additional CFM available from the 4150's, continued to use the teapot through the 1974 model year. R-6812 is the last one I have in my database. Used on a 549 CID engine.

Are these the elusive supercharger (F-code) carbs? None of my Holley Master Catalogs have a listing for these. Do you have the Holley spec sheets for these carbs?

Chris - yes, these are the supercharged carbs. One was for the T-Bird, the other for the passenger version (and, no, I don't remember which is which without looking). Yes, I do have the internal Holley specification sheets, which were given to me by Holley so that I can manufacture rebuilding kits, but I was told the information was for my use only. I am not at liberty to share it. Sorry.

As for the Holley Master Catalogs, I have posted before that I have listings of hundreds of Holley carbs in my database which are not included in the Holley catalogs.

    Secret Squirrel stuff!

Could you share the form number for the sheets so I can petition Holley for access to the Top Secret archives in their Doomsday Carburetor Bunker of Knowledge? :)

Internal document, no form number. Just go by the R-1536 and R-1599 List numbers.

Years ago, when Holley set up their museum, I sent them a LOT of early Holley documents they did not have. In return, they sent me photocopies of these and some others, but not permission to copy.

@Oldmics Do you have more info about the special valley pan?

No AFB will bolt on to any of the intakes.

What carbs will fit depend on which intake.

Casting ECZ-9424-C originally came with Carter WCFB 2361s
Casting EDB-9424-C had the carburetor footprints moved closer together, so the Carters would no longer fit.
Casting ECG-9424-D also had the same footprints as EDB-9424-C

As Oldmics mentioned, ECG-9424-D manifolds are readily available; the other two are somewhat scarce.

Edelbrock produced the ECZ-9424-C, and when Ford went to the cheaper Holleys instead of the Carters, Edelbrock continued to offer the intake with the Edelbrock name and their number rather than the Ford casting number. The Carter WCFB, and possibly others, will fit the Edelbrock intake, as it has the wider spacing.

I have never checked for carburetor clearance, but carbs with the same footprint include:

Carter WCFB (most 1952~1955, some 1956)
    Holley 2140 and 4000 1953-1957
    Rochester 4-GC (most 1952~1956)
    Stromberg 4-A (1952~1954)

As stated above, I have NOT checked for carburetor to carburetor clearance on the above.

Yes thats the number cast on the manifold.
The rear carb is ECZ 9510 M LIST 1161 2.
The front carb is ECK 9510.

The experts were right on 1955 and 1956 carbs.
