I know its not a real sought after car but I liked it. I guess that's all that matters. Its been setting since 1960 1941 Packard 160. Was bought new in Tucson but ended up in a barn in debuque Iowa then some how made it back to Tucson. If someone is a Packard guy wish they could tell me what the purpose of the ugly box on the fender was for. I thought it was added on after the sale but there was a newspaper in the box dated July 1941 debuque newspaper and the car was built in Oct of 1940. So not sure. 20200829_155910.jpg 20200829_155910.jpg 20200829_160243.jpg

I have no idea what the box is, but the 160 is top of the line or close to it. The big straight engine in that thing is a wonderful thing. My dad bought a Packard Clipper after WW 2 and drove them through 1956 when he got his last one. A 1956 Carribean convertable. They were GR8 cars; "ask the man who owns one".

nice car. no idea on the box, some better pics would help. packard came out with ac in 41. the unit practically took up the whole trunk if yours has it. you'll need some "fine threads" to drive around in that

Did it come with dual side mounts? Might be some kind of aftermarket accessory storage box. Those are very well built automobiles, great find!

Now I’m wondering what the box is . Wonder if it was a tool box ? Cool find either way. Build a weird custom out of it.

The box was for carrying the newspapers while doing your delivery route! :D

  14. The box sure looks like something someone added on. I don't understand why you think it might be factory due to the newspaper. You might try a Packard restoration forum. It might be sought after and more valuable to a restorer.

Maybe golf clubs ?? Some of the older high end stuff had a square horizontal compartment behind front doors/behind seat accessible from the outside.

I was told by a packard guy that packard would fabricate in what a customer wanted just dont seem someone would have done that good of a job going to the trouble of blending it that well 1599524949924.jpeg 1599524971471.jpeg

looks like just a plain ol' hardware store latch. i would think packard could come up with something a little nicer than that

My issue with barn finds what happens to the air cleaners? You answer an add that sez ran a few years ago and you get there and the air cleaner is missing or in the front seat and some varmint has been living in the carb.
