The only problem with a 340 is that it look like any other LA engine. What you really need is an EarlyHemi... .

I haven't done a model A (I don't fit in them very well), but I've done a few small block Mopars in hot rods. YES! Do it! 340s are fun to drive in a light weight package. Gene
My avatar is a 1927 Dodge Brothers with a 300 HP 360 mopar with a 727 and 8" rear end You can get an easy 300 HP from the 340 and it is tough as hell. My current build is a baby hemi Dodge 270 in a RPU and it is much heavier than the 360 weighs the same as my Mopar 383 big block
That's why there called hot rods doesn't matter what combo you use especially if you already have the drivetrain. My 40 Ford has 392 Hemi, 400turbo trans, and a Ford 9" rear.
I’m guessing the OP is wondering about fitment issues rather than how to make a 340 purr. I’m my mind the 727 seems kinda long. Thoughts?
Your right the length is more than most but hands down one of the best. Personally I’d put a 46rh overdrive in it. Make crossmember fit accordingly and no different than any others.
It’s ok to be a little different- the motor won’t care what it’s installed in.Build it your way and enjoy it
It’s hard to find a 727 for a small block,,,,,excellent transmission. The 904 is a very good tranny,,,,especially in a lighter application with normal HP . The 340 was one of the best engines Mopar designed and built,,,,,,sad they were built in such low numbers . The 8 3/4 can’t hardly be beat,,,in my opinion . Go for it man,,,,it will be a sweet ride . That's why I used a turbo 400 in my 40 ford over all length shorter than the 727 it fit the 40 chassis with less modification.

I don't think the issue is whether it will fit - anything will fit in anything with a big enough hammer and large enough wallet - but whether it is traditional as Ryan has envisioned the HAMB. 340's are awesome engines, but are after the "1965 and earlier" era that we're focusing on. Build it the way you want, 'cause you have to satisfy you, but hide the 340 (or tell people it's a 273) and make the rest of the car look HAMB-ish (there's a LOT of latitude in that statement) if you keep going that direction. (I had a 340 six pack-727 in my '40 Plymouth back in the late '70s - what an awesome car. Maybe I should consider that in my current '40 build...)
Do it. I put a 360 in my 41 Plymouth and love it.......after I learned all the ways it's different from a SBC.
