these are impossible to find. Do they exist? I’m in need of two 11/16-18 Castle nuts for my rolling bones style ‘32 3window. I need these for the front spring perches. I’m temporarily using jamb nuts for mock up.
I don't know who threaded those , but stock Ford perches are 5/8 x 18 . You will probably have to make those nuts . 11/16 x 18 is not a standard thread , it is Ford tie rod thread.
These are not castle nuts but have the thread you need. Would be glad to donate them to your project. Phil
Damn, in looking at your shop I figured you could make anything but a silk purse out of a sow's ear! Anyway, it sounds like Phil has got you fixed up.
Side note: with so little weight on the spring, it already looks too long. Shackles should be at 45 degrees with ALL the weight on the spring.
Is there any other parts of a Model T to say 1940 ford that use that thread size...why I ask is places like Macs and Drakes carry castellated nuts but don't say what size they are just what part they fit...very helpful I know...
You most likely won't ever find 11/16" castle nuts but, buy 5/8-18 ones and drill and tap them to 11/16-18.
Have you thought about making a phone call or sending a e-mail to the rolling bones garage and asking them what they use? HRP
If you don't find the castle nuts, take Phil up on his offer and drill them for a cutter key or a safety wire.
Found some on eBay just searching for 11/16 castle nuts. Sent from my moto g(8) power using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks everyone for the help. Thank you Phil for the offer. I’ll take you up on them. I threaded the perches myself. The shaft was 11/16 so that’s why I used an 11/16-18 die instead of 5/8-18 die. Rolling bones welds the perches to the bones. I prefer not to weld them in. I also prefer the shackles to be near vertical at ride height. The shop engineer said that would put less stress on the perch. Something about sheer strength is greatest at 90 degrees and less at 45 degrees.
I have the 11/16-18 tap, if it would be easier to drill and tap 5/8 castle nuts you can borrow it. I could meet you half way, say outside of Joliet.
Fastenal skips 11/16 slotted or Castle nuts all together. In fact they don't show 11/16 nuts that I can find.
11/16 stuff used on gm Ford etc suspensions .contact a fastner company, I used to get stuff like that from jerry darian, I m sure you can locate something close , but I doubt if any local hardware.
From the UK.......8 bucks (or offer) for two and 10 bucks to get them here. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-x-11-16-...427476?hash=item2895d48fd4:g:KLYAAOSwc~NbNMfO
Those nuts were pretty husky; probably would be stronger than a 5/8" nut drilled out. Are you adding a panhard bar to counter shackle swing?
Yep, guess that makes sense - considering where they're from......wasn't paying attention. Never mind.
Yeah, 11/16 BSF is 14 threads per inch. Also, the 55 degree English thread angle vs. UN 60 degree is different, but in my experience wouldn't matter.
You, sir, are a generous man. Every time I have loaned out a tap, it's either come back chipped, or in 2 pieces. I would offer to tap the nuts for him, but would not let a special tap like that out of my site!
Thanks for the compliment Dean. Looking at the shop @65standard works at I figured the tap would be in good hands. Either he or someone there would do the job right.
