Well I have been thinking about building a channeled roadster for quite some time now and the opportunity to get a body finally happened a few weeks ago.

It’s an older brookville body that I was able to purchase with an original firewall and grill shell setup, and some other parts for a great deal.

My buddy @Mikel50 let me borrow his frame table, and even delivered it! Thanks Mike. So got the rails just resting there and braced the body in preparation to cut the floors out.

Was way overthinking the cuts for about a week and finally pulled the trigger yesterday and cut it up.

A friend of mine had this 57 Cadillac and while it was rotted to death, it had a great running 365 that will be the new heart for the Roadster.

Since this caddy engine was the planned bullet all along, I was always on the lookout for some neat speed parts for it. Scored this killer vertex magneto a while ago and more recently the 4x2 intake.

I’ve been going through my “to cheap to pass up“ parts and have quite a bit of stuff that will be put to use on this project.
I know it doesn’t look like much yet but this gets the ball rolling!

Width of the frame - one of my favorite "looks" since the '50's. Great course charted, I'll be following!

@tb33anda3rd What parts are you looking for? I can ask him. I pulled the engine and brought the car back to his house already.

Joe, this is gonna be great!

  10. Hay, no fair starting with a Body that don't need the bottom foot replaced and a motor that actually runs. You'll be done in no time.

    Nothing better than a channeled New England Roadster ( photo 1956}

  12. Food for thought. 1954 photo. Even though it's listed as a 32 I believe the base is Model A. None the less I like it!

  14. we could use the "nuts" that holds the wiper transmission to the cowl, and cowl vents.

  16. This is my second channeled roadster. I had the first one, Cadillac powered in the early 1960's.

  17. Don't forget the 39 Ford truck grill.

Working on sectioning the cabin area of the rails to get some more room inside. Interestingly enough the 32 body measured very close to my model A from top of the sub rail to the top of the door.
Brought the rails down from 6” to 4” and added some 1/4” internal gussets on either end for support.

Thats a interesting way of getting more room @51box and look forward to seeing the progress. I love the look of a 32 channeled roadster . I just wish they had more room and looks like your addressing this.

This was my first and only channeled car. I love the look but quickly out grew the cockpit. I'll be watching this build to see what I could have done better.
    Good Luck

Set the body back on last night to get a look at the results. It is about 1.5” that I will have to raise the floor. You can also see in the pic that the firewall feet will be sitting at the stock frame rail height

Up next will be sweeping the rear kick up around 5” for axle clearance. I’m shooting for a little bit of that tail down rake with this car.

They look so great channeled and this is the only way it would work for me being about 5’11”
Goal is to be sitting low but still relatively comfortable in the car.

Instead of butchering your frame rails, a better approach is to put a dropped floor pan in your car. To see how it's done look up "Thacker's Tracker", a model T roadster built on '32 rails, in "Rodder's Digest", February 2004. Best of luck with your project.

There’s a lot of “butchering” on the horizon for this car, steer clear

My first channelled car was a 29 roadster. I was young then and could get in and out easily. Fast forward 50+ years and I wanted another and checked out 29's and a channelled original body 32. I could not get into the 29 at all as the doors are too short and even the stock 32 doors make it difficult. I opted for a body with 2inch longer doors and cabin. Makes it very easy. We also did dropped floor.
