Projects 2nd "Barn Find" on the road

After a year of building I finally got my 2nd "Barn Find" finished and ready to cruise.. An elderly lady bought it new and kept it for about 17 years and the salesman that sold it to her new bought it from her estate with 20,000 mi. on it.. He put 6,000 mi. on it in the next 15 years or so before he died and his son just left it in the barn until I bought it in 2019.. It still had the original paint and dealer installed seat covers.. I am not a "Mopar" guy or a flathead 6 guy so I updated the drive train with a rebuilt V8, rebuilt automatic and Ford ranger rear end.. I kept the stock suspension adding new cut coils, tie rod ends, new wiring, radiator, brakes, and 12v conversion.. Now here is where the "Mopar" guys are going to be pissed but I'll just say "my car, my way"... I did hide the Chevy motor to look like a "Poly head" Plymouth motor.. Looks great and what a nice survivor! Cleaned up nice and will be much more drive-able with the changes you made.

I like that 70/30 bench seat

 

The reason for the 70-30 ^^^ seat is so the passenger can slide over to let someone into the back seat instead of getting out of the car to do it....

 

The 53 Plymouth was no charmer but I like the odd-ball stuff....

I have a ‘54 Plymouth that is a “someday” project. Did you have any issues with the steering lining up with the engine swap? I would love to see some build pics if you took any along the way. What would you say was the biggest challenge you found during the swap? Thanks.

Charleyw, The original gas fill above the back bumper is now a backup lite because I've known from past projects that low gas fillers tend to spit gas back out while filling.. So I put the fill in the trunk when I put a new tank in...

 

Utahdodge, when mounting the sbc I mounted the motor about 1" to the passenger side to clear the stock steering.. I used 1955 Chevy exhaust manifolds to also clear the steering box and ran a cross over pipe to the passenger side for single exhaust with an ugly "bear claw" exhaust tip.. I also notched the front cross member for the bottom pulley and also for the fuel pump.. I used some motor mounts for mounting a sbc in a Jeep and they worked great.. The sbc is a little smaller than most Mopar motors and fit very well.. Go for it with your build....

 

A unique ride done beautifully! It's one of those stodgy 'not a cool car' cars that everybody passed over back in the day- but someone (you) sees something that everybody else didn't. Great job on the engine, I'm sure you cause a lot of head scratching at the car shows with it, lol.
