  1. You're right George, but when you get the front end that high, it might be a good idea to lift a bit.

I do agree with that, Dean. And although I can't be sure about the perspective in that photo, that digger seems perilously close to the left lane wall...

What's that stream of "stuff" coming out of the engine, just below the headers ?

    Hey M,
Nice eye on that mysterious "what ever" showing up on the action photo. The only way to find out is to obviously talk to the owner-driver. But, like most copied photos, that is out of the question. So, enlarging the photo is handy for detail work.
    upload_2020-8-28_17-25-59.png original posted photo

As far as this old eye can see, it is either a bad negative clean up job before printing the final photograph or a loose wire hanging from the injected SBC motor. The dark enlargement shows some blurs that could be cleared up before printing, but it showed up in the print.

The light exposure shows a wire going behind the headers, dangling on the ground. It looks like it is coming from a hose attached to the manifold. This motion of the FED would send that loose hose into the slicks, but the still photo caught it just before. There is no reason to have a loose hose dangling from the motor. It is not water.

The original photo makes it look like a water stream coming from the motor. That is not good for the slicks to get good traction. Since these are old photos with the photographer unknown or a copied photo from the internet as most are, information is scarce or non existent.
    upload_2020-8-28_17-27-48.png high contrast

A high contrast B/W version enlarged, shows a hose of some kind.

If the original photographer knew the owner-driver, that would solve this mystery. But, we all like a good mystery.

Isn’t that Bill Hielscher? Bill secured the sponsorship and was known as Mr. Bardahl for years. I’m not saying Lance Hill was not in a business partnership with Hielscher, only that he’s not in the photo.

Fordors, you are absolutely right. My apologies for getting this so wrong. Thanks for pointing out the error.

Rest in Peace Mr. Bardahl, Bill Hielscher.

Thought you'd enjoy some pictures of the Orange Car in it's original livery - the way we re-created the car before Roland Leong bought it. Good Thing I married "Blinkey" Sullivan's Daughter! (Blinkey was in the inset photo of the first page of the Curt Hamilton Article on the car in the November, 1961 Issue of HotRod. These are photos from the Hot Rod 65th Birthday Party in Pomona in March of 2013 and some photos of the original chalk on construction paper art that Blinkey keeps on his garage wall. 2013-03-22 20.04.39.jpg 2013-03-22 20.06.32.jpg 2013-03-22 20.05.47 (2).jpg 2013-03-22 20.05.56.jpg 2013-03-22 20.06.20.jpg 2013-03-23 12.58.13.jpg 2013-03-22 20.04.58.jpg 2013-03-22 20.07.24.jpg 2011-01-16 14.07.45.jpg 2011-01-16 13.32.25.jpg 2013-03-24 10.45.04.jpg Toms iPhone 5s Photos & Videos Sept 2015 280.JPG

Thought you'd enjoy some pictures of the Orange Reath Automotive sponsored (Pat Helmick & Gary Slusser) AA/FA Fiat Altered Coupe as referenced by you on the cover of Drag News (later) in it's original livery as seen in Hot Rod Magazine - November, 1961. (My father-in-law: "Blinkey" Sullivan, a member of the team was in the center of the inset photo of the first page of the Curt Hamilton Article on the car - (good thing I married his daughter!) These are photos from the Hot Rod 65th Birthday Party in Pomona in March of 2013 and some photos of the original chalk on construction paper art that Blinkey keeps on his garage wall. You can also see the car in the September, 2013 Issue of Hot Rod, memorializing that fantastic event. To add an even greater compliment, Hot Rod invited us to the 70th Birthday Party in Pomona in 2018 where the little Fiat stood among some of the giant's of Hot Rod Magazine's feature cars in the main tent. Enjoy!
