I'm a Buick man but I could get use to this. Love the way it drives and hits the hwy like a champ. Just needs a little love. Hot start issue (acts like battery is dead but its not) starts perfect when cold, if it rains Im screwed until I fix the wiper motor, and gotta find out why so much heat is making its way into the cabin. Nice find....clear hood is rare. Heat in the cabin is typical of glass top Fords i've been in. That "glass" top makes for a hotter interior than a regular hardtop.

  4. I thought the see through hood was just a dealer item to show off the new Y block. I bet they are rare.

Hot start issue, if it is a 6 volt car, make sure you have heavy battery cables. Wimpy 12 volt modern day cables don't cut the mustard. Also make sure all grounds are clean and attached to the engine and body.

Makes since. I have a lot of heat coming from the firewall. I'm betting that the heater coil is circulating and transmitting a lot of hit also.

Its like 1 of 106 that was ordered with a manual 3 speed overdrive. Most were automatic optioned from what I've read. You are correct about the dealer item.

Knew a guy who called those "demonstrator hoods". Don't know if that's the proper name. I think Olds did it too in 49(?). Really nice car. Congrats.

THanks. I'm feeling it but that freaking buick is calling my name. The ford just drives so darn good and cruises down the road so effortlessly Im shocked. Then again I'm use to driving buick tanks

If you plan on keeping and using it as a daily driver consider a Newport Engineering 2 speed electric wiper set up. Only problem is that they are 12 volt only. I put one in my '54 Ranch Wagon and it works slick. If you're dead set on keeping the vacuum set up I have the one I took out. Not sure if its any better than the one you have but you can have it for the postage. That way you could get it all sorted on the bench and then just R&R the new one for the old one. FYI: getting the old unit out isn't a fun job. On mine the radio and speaker were out along with the speaker grill so it wasn't too bad. With the radio and speaker installed it wouldn't be a fun job. Nice car by the way.

  21. The heat could be coming from your fresh air vents, the knobs on ether side of your steering column.

In the fresh air vent damping seals there is a valve that opens and closes a flapper valve, it has a piece of rubber to seal it when closed, if it was like my '54 it's brittle and not sealing.

You can get the new pieces from Dennis Carpenter Ford Reproductions, one on ether side. HRP

Also make sure you have a cover on your air duct ventilator which is easy to get to under the hood, Dennis carpenter also offers this piece but a piece of inner tube will last much longer.

Without these pieces hot air can creep in, of course winter is not that far away and the heat might feel good. :DHRP

A friend has two,(yes two ) 54 Mercury Sunliners. both have a removable headliner to block out the sun.
A major cause of hot interiors. Also, check those vent seals.

Those "demonstrator" hoods would be real rare on a '54 Canadian car since that was the last year of the flathead.

Clean all ground connections. This is very important for 6 volt cars that are hard to start

  28. Beautiful car. I used to have a 55 Glasstop. Hotter than a sauna in the southern summer. They need A/C if you are going to drive them a lot.

If you feel the heat is coming from the heater; you can install a valve on the intake you can turn off in winter. Normal on many 50’s cars.
