Art & Inspiration how about a cars in front of barns picture thread??

Sure, now I gotta find a barn to park in front of and take a picture.

The best I can do right now is a few pictures in the junk yard on top of a pile of tires, and the picture of how much of it I brought to my 1st real shop. The 1st picture is the finished truck, just to show I really did get it done.

 

First picture is of my father-in-law & his father, in front of their barn in Irondequoit (Rochester, NY area), circa 1923 or '24. Guy leaning up against the barn was a hired man.
Picture wasn't dated, but my f-i-l was born in 1918 and the kid looks to be 5 or 6. They used the truck to go to market, but farmed with horse & plow until after WW2.
Anybody tell me what make & year the truck was ?

Second pic is of my '37 Chevy Sports Coupe taken after I first bought it in 1989. Sorry for the poor quality - I didn't have a very good camera with me at the time.

This was built in 1881, should meet the criteria for a barn. Today, I was out testing some "improvements" on my cooling system. It was 102 Degrees F in Benson, AZ when I passed thru there.

Anybody tell me what make & year the truck was ?


This one is 1924 Ford Model TT
Slight difference in the cab but that maybe a simplified restored cab.
The bed, wheels, fenders, cowl lights, motometer look the same.
Could be it.

Hello,

We were trying to get a good background for a magazine spread. Since the 1940 tan/beige Ford Sedan Delivery was not as colorful as a lot of other hot rods, we tried to get to a place that had some history. The barn built in the 1940s style and turned into a restaurant was located near the OC Santa Ana Airport. It was maybe a block away to the West or pretty close to the old Santa Ana Dragstrip for a historic background. It was one of my favorite photo shoot days, as memories flowed during the set up.

This was one of the nicest 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery hot rods at the time. It had the stock look with wide whites and matching painted wheels with mini hubcaps. SBC V8, A/C, auto, and every single NOS chrome pieces finished the project. It was already slated for a photo spread, but we were going for a center spread or cover shot.

But, the editors had two reasons for no cover or center spread: lack of hot rod color and trick photography was not accepted. Despite the quality of the work and materials, in other words, it was too plain. So, what was on the cover? A maroon RPU in front of a red-maroon barn. Too much color and no contrast, as the subject melded into the background.

Back then, cars were still allowed to be a tax write off for registration and other fees. But, that stopped in 1986. So, the only way to continue during the early hot rod days was to put the name of your company or business on the sides in permanent paint. No magnetic boards or signs would qualify for the tax write off. That is one way to fund your custom car or build, as well as advertise your own business.
