I know this will ruffle some feathers but nothing says Super Stock or conjures up the vision of Super Stock like a MoPar.

 

Other makes are not even close IMO. I appreciate several of the others but the Mopar Super Stockers just had a perfect look.

An interview with Jerry Stein.
A little ways in he talks about setting two records at the opening national event at San Air
in Canada. I was part of his crew then and remember the tear-downs for tech inspection in a cold barn at 3:30 am.

Way back then, the "Little Old Lady From Pasadena" bought her hot car from Milne Brothers on E. Colorado Blvd. We used to see the dealership on the annual New Year's Day Rose Parade as it was on Colorado Blvd, right in the area of the old downtown buildings. Sadly, the 2021 Rose Parade is cancelled due to the pandemic.

There were plenty of stories about it, but the most logical purchase point would have been the Milne Brothers Dealership in Pasadena. That is a nice part of town to go for a cruise.

The odd thing was, there were plenty of these cars at the dragstrips, but, in our Bixby Knolls/Long Beach area, the numbers were nil. We saw one up at Harvey's in Downey, it sounded powerful, but a little "tinny." Maybe it was the aluminum front end??? But, no doubt, it was a fast car for the street, capable of turning 11 sec at the dragstrip.

NOTE:
In 1962, there was an old lady in Long Beach driving a modified 58 impala with a C&O Stick Hydro that kept all comers at bay with its rich history from the local area. But, it was not a 11 second car. Sheesh !

 

I remember those days very well.
I had a friend who walked into a dealership and walked out with a 1963 Hemi with two very large 4 barrel carbs.

Drove it over to my house to show me and I could not believe my eyes.
He added slicks and was off that Sunday to Dover Drag Strip for a few easy test runs to get used to it.
