I bought a swap meet axle which believe to be an older super bell axle... well it has a set of discs on it that I hope someone can help me identify so I can see if I can get parts to rebuild and use on my full fendered 36 project C370C6F3-FD87-41F9-A882-860F89022E47.jpeg 660A102B-0815-48D5-96E3-6416FCF000B6.jpeg E1BF4E2F-9196-4955-B860-D06399CA3B08.jpeg A74BC57A-3E05-4802-B06B-3711CC8BEECB.jpeg

Super Bell aluminum hubs and 3/8” steel rotors, and IIRC the calipers are Type II VW. Or was it Type III?
I don’t know about the grease seals but the wheel bearings are as original, there are no modifications to the spindles.

Here are some details from an old SB catalog. I wonder if they might be marginal on a ‘36, they were most used on early hot rods, T through ‘34.

Dang that was quick haha thank you very much I appreciate it!

  5. Solid rotors, full fendered fat Ford...mmm...I think those Superbell/VW setups were more aimed at lighter highboy type cars.
I'm sure someone else will have an opinion on this: solid vs. vented rotors.

Those brakes look adequate for a rear engine car, like a type III VW.

I bet they were a big improvement over the original front brakes on a Model T, though!

    :)

8AB15104-195C-4220-978B-8A282B1C6C47.jpeg A friend built a ‘31 Chevy coupe with that kit and used VW Type III’s, and my ‘32 5 W has a PSI kit with solid 3/8” rotors and dual spot Airheart calipers. Never an issue from either car’s brakes driving around the Midwest or South, but as I said earlier I would not use them on the later, heavier cars.

  9. I have a NOS set of those rotors if anybody is in need. Hate to toss 'em.

Thanks for the replay fellas , I was kind of wondering if that set up would be stout enough , I will just replace with a heavier unit.. but lucky enough I have a t touring project in the works also so the super stoppers will go to that one

I agree with the rest of the guys, I'd want a little more robust setup on a heavier car myself....
