'56 hands down for that series.

  2. If I were to compare, I'd go with the Advance Design Chevy, which (I say) is much more the"iconic" vintage pickup. I didn't compare because I wanted the Ford to be the discussion topic.

53-56 Ford are OK, yes they are iconic but honestly they are not my favorite. I like F1s much better. I have owned F1s and advanced designs. The F1 is a better truck hands down. The Chevy or GMC may have better lines but the F1 is just a better truck.
The 40-41 Ford are lookers maybe the prettiest.
My favorite truck, real pickup truck, is a 1941-1946 Art Deco Chevrolet.

    That's a pretty S.O.B.

my dads in the mid sixties, with my wheels and tires from my model A Tudor. I shaved the hood and bondoed the holes, not professional, but a bit cool. My dad got rid of it while I was in VN. Wish I had gotten to keep it. It was a lot of fun.

  5. Dang Dude, that's almost like saying "I don't like women with Tattoo's", what do ya think. Tattoo's can't make a Fat girl look not Fat or turn homely into Wow. That's not a question, just an opinion. We all have our idea of what we like and they differ for everyone of us sitting at the key board.

I like the Fords and the Chevys of the 50s pretty equally, I think they both have good and bad points. When I think of ugly trucks '48-'53 Dodge comes to mind.

  9. Here's the thing. I was thinking about a critique of many Ford pickups, starting somewhere after 1940 and ending at the HAMB cutoff, and trying to figure out where the styling took a turn. But I was busy, so I picked the popular '56.

  11. I like what I believe would be considered Art Deco: What you posted, the Chevy ADs, and the best (as I said in my other pickup thread) is the Hudson Terraplane, which I think oozes Art Deco styling.

  12. Not at all. It's a car. It's nobody's specific car. No 1956 Ford 5F-100s' feelers were hurt.

  13. GMC messed up their version of the AD with their grille and accompanying hood changes.

  14. The '56 Ford is popular, '48-'53 Dodges aren't. I could've asked, "Why are '56 Ford trucks so popular (well-liked)?"

There is just something about this picture!

As far as your friend moving the axle CL, that's one key modification that these tricks need to look right. IMO.

Either you like a car (or truck) or you don't. If you do fine if you don't keep it to yourself. But, I drive a barrel nose p/u so what do I know?

  22. Some of you guys are mixed up on your manners.

    Barrel-nose pickups are great.

It is, 56 had the gas filler on the passenger side.

  25. I really do not know how to reply to this topic. Is an old bald fat man as handsome to a woman as a twenty two year old skinny kid?

  26. To me it is a toss up which Ford pickup is the best- either the '40 or the '56. I wish I had one of each.

I have owned several 55-57 chevy pick ups in the last 30 yrs... I would love to own a 56 ford big window.

  28. What does that have to do with anything?

  30. For those that might like to know what else separates the 56 from the 53-4-5's. It is the only one of them with a built in visor, a rectangle vent window, last year for full length running boards and the first year for 12 volts and that's why the Radio's don't interchange. Of course the big thing is the wrap around windshield and first of the Big back window. The real big draw back to me is the Gas Tank was moved inside behind the seat making for less leg room than the prior 3 years. God only knows why they put the Gas filler on the passenger side making the driver walk all the way around to the other side to add gas. The first 3 years had it just outside the driver door where it belonged. Beyond all that they are pretty much the same trucks. Ya, I like them.
