Great article on the Kookie car in hot rod.

People can say what they want about hot rod but I can usually find several good things in each issue.... 99F11303-4D7C-497B-9562-E055015C3EAD.jpeg 7E29E34A-DB83-4CC4-A6BC-78715134A865.jpeg E0ACE4BC-A06D-4DE4-886F-D76B95F4A9D7.jpeg CBA05707-5E9A-415E-B71A-6CB6A3094572.jpeg 0213F040-E100-4301-8D8C-12488466B928.jpeg BC5431C4-DF0C-4184-94F3-3F6264E12095.jpeg D862CD04-5EFD-47E0-A7AC-7E57F0AAD4C8.jpeg

I am all about making them as nice as you can. But all the pictures I have seen since the restoration makes it look over done, almost to perfect and some how the sole of it is gone. Not knocking it, just an observation. Larry

It's an interesting time in Hotrod and any showcasing of Vintage Past Greatness may assist in a further revival of the looks from the Yesteryear...

I'm of the opinion it helps in celebrating what we already hold close to the heart...

    Thanks for sharing @Moriarity...;)

  6. It’s nice to see that now all the other hot rod mags are dead Hot Rod is showcasing some traditional stuff now.
Like you @Moriarity i like there tech articles.
Always something useful or at least hmmmm that’s neat.
Hope the mag keeps going strong !

The kookie car is an iconic car, restoration is concourse quality .

It is very well done, it's previous double blower/duelie condition had to be removed.

I have the Car Craft that it was featured in. I bought it for the "Hot Blower" article.

I always wondered how he kept the Cadillac engine cool with such a small radiator. Now after seeing how low the radiator goes I wonder how many lower tanks he took out. Have a flat on the front replace the radiator.

  13. My issue landed in the mailbox today. I keep telling myself that I'm not going to re-new (It was substituted for Street Rodder), but if they keep up this traditional stuff, I may have to change my mind.

beautiful job on this car , Im glad it did not come back as the over done show car it was last seen as , Im sure Norm would be proud of his creation ,

  17. Valley Custom Shop in Burbank did the transformation from the Black Lighning Bug version to the famous blue flamed version. I grew up with Norm and his car in Sunland Ca.

Hm...I haven't received my issue of HR yet. Hopefully it will be in my mailbox today.

  21. Valley Custom Shop also did a 53 to 56 Ford pickup truck for Norm that was real nice, Black and had them take the peak out of the hood. I'll look for pictures of it. Can't find a picture of Norms black f100 pickup, anybody have a picture of it?

Mark, I think it's cool that you live on Wilshire Blvd. -- Given the old HRM location being on a street of the same name.

I finally got my issue today. Loved it. Yep, those were my Wonder Bread years and I was 10-12 years old when all this stuff hit the media. I never saw much of the car mags at my age but I was building plastic model hot rods and my folks had a subscription to LIFE magazine till the very end of its run. Ozzie and Harriet and 77 Sunset Strip were big hits with me and the folks. Car-wise, what I never realized until today was that the front end is actually a cleverly disguised 4-bar, not just a spring behind suicide deal like you see these days with spit hairpins. Velly interesting...

I thought they did a great job on the article. The T looks great! I think the Rodders Journal is planning a feature article on the car also.

Cool, I let my subscription run out but I need to go pick up a sack of dog food and they put the new magazines out in that store today.

Tell the story about how Mamie hated Norm and refused to work with him after one movie, really funny, IF its accurate.

Read it years ago, ( Forgot all the details, But somebody here knows .)
